The Philadelphia Flyers did not have any players added to the NHL’s COVID Protocol list on Saturday. However, no Flyers were taken off the list either.

That means that seven Flyers remain on the list: Justin Braun, Morgan Frost, Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton, Oskar Lindblom, Travis Sanheim, and Jakub Voracek.

Sanheim is nearing a week on the list, and Giroux and Braun have been on the list for four days. Frost and Voracek have been on the list for two days. Laughton and Lindblom are still on the list after being added yesterday.

No new Flyers on the list is good news, though it could be better news if Sanheim – or any of the Flyers – were taken off of the list.

The Flyers have already had four of their games postponed. Last weekend, their games scheduled for Thursday and Saturday of this week were postponed due to the Devils’ COVID situation. Then on Tuesday, that night’s Flyers at Capitals game was postponed due to the Flyers’ COVID situation. That has carried over to Sunday’s Flyers at Rangers game as well, which was postponed on Wednesday.

If the Flyers are unable to play Thursday’s game, it seems likely that the NHL will replace them for Sunday’s game in Lake Tahoe. Even if the Flyers are healthy for that game, they may need to be replaced. Having them come off of a long layoff and immediately thrust them onto the National stage wouldn’t be good for the quality of the game, and it also wouldn’t be great PR for the league.

We’ll have to wait and see what this means for the Flyers moving forward. Their game against the New York Rangers on Thursday is on as of now, and so is the game at Lake Tahoe next Sunday.
