NHL Draft, Day 2: Flyers select Finnish winger Samu Tuomaala with 46th pick
The Philadelphia Flyers are on the board in the 2021 NHL Draft. They traded their first-round pick on Friday for Rasmus Ristolainen but held onto their second-rounder this year. They used it on Saturday to draft a Finnish winger, Samu Tuomaala.

Here’s a quick scouting report on Samu Tuomaala from Elite Prospects:
“He reloads to swing wide on his team’s breakout, collects the puck in stride, accelerates through knee-over-knee crossovers, and drives play across the offensive blue line. Blink, and you just might miss him. Tuomaala has a wicked wrist shot, and he can get it off in-stride from either foot.”
Tuomaala was ranked as a first-round prospect by many. Here are those rankings via Elite Prospects:
Getting a player ranked in the top 20 overall players by three outlets at pick No. 46 seems like some great value. In fact, everyone listed above had Tuomaala ranked at 46th or higher, with many of them being much higher.
It’s been a busy weekend for Chuck Fletcher and it’s only going to get busier on Day 2 of the NHL Draft.
