COVID Strikes Flyers Key Players; Giroux, Provorov Placed into Protocol
The Philadelphia Flyers lineup was hit by COVID later Tuesday afternoon, hours before the Flyers game against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center.
The Flyers announced that top-line center Claude Giroux and top-pairing defenseman Ivan Provorov were placed on the COVID-19 protocol list.
Last week, the NHL shortened the protocol for players who are asymptomatic to just five days. However, a player must go through several tests before being cleared.
The Flyers have points in seven of their last eight games and have regained their footing in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. They trailed the Boston Bruins by four points, but Boston has four games in hand.
Claude Giroux has paced the Flyers offense this season. In 32 games, the top center has 29 points, including 11 goals.
Provorov has been on the wrong side of the puck but still posted 13 points (4-9-13) in 32 games.
The Flyers visit the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. The puck drops just after 10 p.m. EST. Get the game preview, lines, and stats here.
