The Flyers needed to have a successful four-game homestand to gain ground in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.

Didn’t happen.

Instead, they went 1-1-2 after Sunday’s sloppy 4-3 loss to Seattle, and they now head on the road for four games. With 27 games left, their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. They are seven points out of a playoff spot and need to hop over five teams to get there.

For most of the season, the Flyers (22-23-10) have overachieved, and the fact they are still in the playoff chase — even peripherally — is encouraging when you look at their young lineup.

The New York Islanders, meanwhile, have underachieved, and their fans are unhappy with coach Lane Lambert.
