Flyers’ Tortorella: If Farabee’s Agent is ‘Popping Off,’ he Should ‘Shut Up’
Is there bad blood brewing between the Philadelphia Flyers and Joel Farabee?
A report from the Daily Faceoff said “yes” on Thursday. The website said Farabee’s camp was upset at how the left winger’s season had gone under new coach John Tortorella.
Farabee, who had offseason neck surgery and has had a disappointing year, says it’s not true.
Tortorella seemed on board with Farabee’s comments.
On Friday morning, Tortorella said reports of Farabee being upset is “news to me.”
Added Torts: “Is his agent popping off? Is that what it is? He’s popping off in the media that he’s pissed off about Joel (and his handling)? Oh, for God’s sake. They should just shut up.”
Tortorella is still in Farabee’s corner.
“By any stretch, I have not given up on Joel Farabee,” he said.
Farabee, who turns 23 on Saturday, has nine goals and 26 points in 59 games. He is goal-less in his last 18 games.
After Friday’s morning skate, Farabee told reporters he was committed to being a Flyer and staying here. He is in the first season of a six-year, $30 million contract.
The winger grew up rooting for the Philadelphia Flyers. Farabee said he was “100 percent committed” to being a Flyer. I love being here. I love playing for the city.
A first-round selection(No. 14 overall) in 2018 and a former Boston University star, Farabee had a breakthrough season in 2020-21, scoring 20 goals in just 55 games. Last season, he had 17 goals in 63 games.
The surgery, however, appears to have affected his play this season.
Farabee and the Flyers host the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night.
