The Philadelphia Flyers sent right-handed-shooting defenseman Ronnie Attard back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday.

Attard, 24, had no points and an “even” rating in two games with Philly. He displayed good on-ice awareness and a solid shot.

He figures to be a strong contender for a roster spot next season.

Attard, a third-round selection in the 2019 draft, will now help the Phantoms (35-26-6) in their playoff run.

Lehigh Valley’s magic number for clinching a playoff spot was reduced to three points after Friday’s 5-2 win over Charlotte. Cooper Marody had three points, and Elliot Desnoyers and Louie Belpedio each had a goal and an assist.

Sam Ersson had 29 saves for the Phantoms, who have won five of their last six.

As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they will take a five-game losing streak into Saturday’s night game against the host New York Islanders.

Your comment makes no sense. Why would you, or anyone, think that a minor league player that’s “a strong contender for a spot” means a team is bad?
