Flyers forward Joel Farabee scored an exciting goal in the second period.

The Boston Bruins set an NHL record Sunday night by notching their 63rd regular-season win, a hard-earned 5-3 victory over the gallant Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

David Pastrnak scored his 58th, 59th and 60th goals of the season. The cheers were loud on his final goal, the 300th of his career. Bruins fans threw their hats on the ice, and it was 4-2 with 19:21 to go in the game.

Shortly after Ivan Provorov hit the back boards hard and fell on his arm. He went to the tunnel and did return.

Owen Tippett did make it 4-3 with his 24th goal at 9:06. Flyers fans came alive at that point. Then the Bruins (63-12-5) made it 5-3 on a Pavel Zacha goal. Pastrnak got an assist on the play, his fourth point on the night.

Boston fans chanted “We want the Cup” before it ended.

The Philadelphia Flyers (29-38-13) suffered their seventh straight loss, while Boston increased its win streak to six.

“You don’t win when you build. You have to go through some crap. That’s how you build a team. The losing sucks…No team builds the proper way by not going through this stuff,” said John Tortorella.

Here are five quick observations:

1. Joel Farabee scored on a broken play.

Farabee got the puck after Tippett passed it to a Bruins player and Farabee stole the puck back and went to the net and scored making it a 3-2 game at 13:58 of the second period. It was Farabee’s 14th of the season and Tippett got the assist.

2. The Flyers power play is still a mess.

The Flyers missed out on their first two power plays. On their third, they had a few good chances, but Travis Konecny grabbed Kyle Clifton’s visor and got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that ended that PP opportunity.

The Flyers’ power play was 0 for 4 on the night. That made them 0 for 18 in their last six games.

They didn’t generate a lot and they still haven’t been able to get it on track at all this season. It’s been one of the biggest failings of the coaching staff.

3. David Pastrnak scored. And scored. And scored.

David Pastrnak entered the game with 57 goals. Well he got his 58th when he went five hole on Felix Sandstrom and that gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 2:04 of the second period. The Bruins tried to overrule a no-goal call at 15:20.

Later in the period Pastrnak scored his 59th at 7:31 of the second. Pastrnak scoring when given the chance is usually one of the NHL best bets. When he completed his hat trick in the third, he became the first Bruin to reach the 60-goal mark since Phil Esposito scored 61 in 1974-75.

4. It was a crazy first period.

Boston got a goal from Charlie Coyle 47 seconds into the first period. Then at 1:04, Wade Allison (ninth goal) followed up with a goal when Jeremy Swayman misplayed the puck.

Sandstrom had to make some five-bell saves, but it was 1-1 heading into the second period.

“Just go to the net, good things happen, just happen to bang one home,” Allison said.

5. Nick Deslauriers took line rushes as the sixth defenseman.

With Tony DeAngelo being scratched for the third-consecutive game and other injuries happening, the Flyers defensemen logged a lot of minutes in this game. Delauriers never actually lined up in the game as a defenseman. He did fight A.J. Greer and beat him up pretty good in the third period.

Breakaways:

The Flyers had a 37-34 shots edge. … The Flyers dressed five defensemen. Nick Seeler was ill and missed the game, and Tony DeAngelo was a healthy scratch for the third straight game. … Provorov and York were each minus-3. … James van Riemsdyk still has 299 career goals; he had seven shot attempts, including four on goal. …..Bruins fans invaded the building and were very loud…The Easter Bunny (was Tim Panaccio inside the suit?) took a few bangs at the drum pre-game… Tippett (6), Rasmus Ristolainen (5) and Farabee (5) combined for 16 shots. … Brendan Lemieux got hit with an inadvertent high stick late in the third period and lost a tooth. … The Flyers host Johnny Gaudreau and Columbus on Tuesday.
