Bailey’s Daily: Latest on Ivan Fedotov; Goalie Interference Rule Robs Bruins
In Monday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
NHL legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Sergei Zubov was a head coach in the KHL once upon a time, running the bench for HK Sochi several years ago. Now that Zubov is back in charge of the show again, the legendary defenseman is ready for the opportunity to coach Philadelphia Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov if that is what fate decides.
In other Russian Flyers news, a long, drawn-out feud is finally coming to an end. Kind of, anyway. The IIHF announced on Saturday that they would be issuing sanctions against KHL club CSKA Moskva, the RIHF, and Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov. And with that, it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing Fedotov in Russia or representing Russia on the ice any time in the near future.
With the draft lottery completed and the results finalized, the Flyers are going to have the 12th pick in the draft this year. While that draft pick is obviously going to be important, the Flyers’ other first-round pick is going to determine how well they make out in the 2024 NHL Draft.
With the New York Rangers up 3-1 in their series against the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s nearly curtains for one of the Metropolitan Division’s heavyweights. While tempting, don’t let allow yourself to romanticize successful teams and start begging for a new coach, like former Flyers forward Rod Brind’Amour.
In case you missed it, we’re firing up draft season very early over here. Our first Flyers mock draft has the Orange and Black taking a coveted defense prospect with their top selection in the 2024 draft.
NHL News from National Hockey Now
The Florida Panthers controversially took a 3-1 lead over the Boston Bruins in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but head coach Jim Montgomery and his crew have legitimate grips about how Florida’s game-winner went in. The goalie interference rule never truly makes its way out of NHL news.
Bad news for Joel Farabee and the rest of Team USA–Detroit Red Wings goalie Alex Lyon has been ruled out for the rest of the IIHF Men’s World Championships in Czechia due to what has been reported to be a hand injury. But another Red Wings goalie will take his place.
It’s going to be a busy summer for general manager Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins, but there are seven players who won’t be getting involved in any kind of Penguins trade.
The Vegas Golden Knights might be running out of cap space, but fortunately, they have some decent prospects coming to the rescue for them. Get to know Carl Lindbom, one of the NHL’s very best goalie prospects.
I’m sure Vegas can get Danny’s help in shedding some cap space, seems to be his specialty.
Seven of their top ten contracts are players 30-years old and older.
Danny already helped them with Noah Hanifin……if he is inclined to help them more,
Danny better get high draft pick (s)..I think the Vegas team may be on the decline.
