Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Goalie Banned; Valeri Nichushkin Suspended 6 Months
In Tuesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day. The last few days have been a slower burn for me, so some of this might be old to you. You’ll want to stay tuned for the end of the month, though.
Flyers News
Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov has received his fair share of punishment for his role in dodging the valid contract he signed with the Flyers last year, which includes a ban from the 2026 Olympic Games. It’s not like the guy was arrested and forcefully conscripted into the Russian navy or anything. After signing an extension with the Flyers and living out his dream of playing in the NHL, I’m sure Fedotov couldn’t care less.
Speaking of Fedotov, the situation with the IIHF sanctions against him, the RIHF, and CSKA Moscow isn’t going well in Russia. CSKA president Igor Esmantovich used an interview with MatchTV as an opportunity to blast the IIHF for meddling in Russian hockey.
Elsewhere in Russian Flyers news, Hockey Hall of Famer and new HK Sochi head coach Sergei Zubov is ready for the chance Matvei Michkov ends up leaving SKA St. Petersburg to play for Sochi for the third straight year. The Flyers would probably love for their No. 1 prospect to get coached up by an NHL legend before he transitions to North America.
This hasn’t aged well so far, but the Flyers shouldn’t thirst for Rod Brind’Amour just to further romanticize regular season success. Brind’Amour and his Hurricanes have pulled back two games against the Rangers in their series, but we’ll see if that lasts.
NHL News from National Hockey Now
The biggest NHL news of the night, unfortunately, is that Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin is back in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program at Stage 3. Nichushkin has been suspended without pay for six months, and his team is now on the brink of elimination from the Stanley Cup playoffs after losing 5-1 to the Dallas Stars on Monday night. Nichushkin’s playoff run ends with nine goals and one assist in eight games.
Less unfortunate, but gruesome nonetheless, was the nasty cut to the face New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier suffered playing for Switzerland at the World Championships on Monday afternoon. You’ve been warned, but his jersey was so bloodied he had to wear a different jersey with a random number and no name on it.
Boston Bruins winger Pat Maroon has entered the chat. With the Bruins also facing elimination, Maroon called out the media for stirring up a narrative on top of barking out that he and his team need to “win a f–king hockey game.”
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Montreal Canadiens are reportedly interested in prized KHL free agent Maxim Tsyplakov, who scored 31 goals this season and boasts a 6-foot-3 frame to bully smaller opponents around with.
I hope this Fedotov is worth this whole mess , nonsense , whether it was his doing or not. Then an inflated contract , not to mention curious decision of throwing him into failed playoff run. This whole ordeal is a mess
