Kolosov Rumors Continue as Goalie Reportedly Bails on Flyers

According to a report, Alexei Kolosov, the Philadelphia Flyers’ top goalie prospect, bailed on the team and slept through his flight instead of showing up to development camp earlier in the month as originally planned.

According to a report from Ivan Bogun via Belarus Hockey and Telegram, Kolosov was supposed to arrive in North America for the Flyers’ annual development camp, which ran from July 2 to July 6, “accidentally” overslept for his flight and has since asked his old KHL club, Dinamo Minsk, to assist him with terminating his NHL contract with Philadelphia.

“Alexei Kolosov is the strangest guy. Sign a rookie contract to run home in a couple of months and refuse to return to the location Philadelphia is, of course, the upside of infantilism,” wrote Bogun. “I heard that the goalkeeper has already asked the management of Minsk to do everything to help solve the issue of termination of the contract in the NHL. The funny thing is that he was supposed to fly to Pennsylvania on June 20, according to the tickets purchased by the Flyers, but ‘completely by chance’ overslept the flight and stayed in Belarus.

“Now it is interesting to see how the Minsk residents will solve Kolosov’s request, after which they withdrew from the negotiations on the acquisitions of Ilya Konovalov and Sergei Murashov. And it’s even more interesting to know what the agent (Alijosa Pliko) thinks about all this.”

Please note that the above translations were from Russian to English, and because there are no direct translations for certain Cyrillic words to English and vice versa, they may not be 100% accurate.

Additionally, Mikhail Zislis reported that Kolosov was spotted training with Dinamo Minsk on Tuesday. Some photos of the Flyers prospect training in Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Flyers gear have surfaced, but beyond that, any reasons to believe that Kolosov is returning are rapidly eroding.

Adding some credence to Bogun’s report is the fact that the Flyers’ official Twitter (or X) account had posted an image of the development camp roster that listed Carson Bjarnason and Kolosov as the two goalies, but the post was promptly deleted. This was either a clerical error or a pre-planned post, and the latter now seems more likely.

Minsk forward Vladislav Kodola also echoed the Kolosov rumors a few weeks back, claiming that the 22-year-old told him that the KHL was better than the AHL, leaving Kodola uncertain as to whether he would return to North America or not.

Not long after, I had the opportunity to ask Flyers general manager Danny Briere about Kolosov and if these rumors were a “non-issue”, to which he replied, “Correct. Yeah, I think that’s fair to say. As far as we know, there’s no issue there.”

Roughly two months remain before Kolosov will have to report to North America for the Flyers’ training camp, but at this time, things are not looking up for the Belarusian’s future in Philly.

Terminate his contract…..let him play in Minsk…if he is outstanding, then trade his rights for a high draft pick….let another club deal with the lack of maturity. With both Ersson and Fodotov, and the others in the pipeline…there are enough younger goalies to go around.

Quigs

Late round pick at best, especially after this

EOh

Agree to terminate. Do it with respect to the players anxiety. Any other action will make the organization look bad. And with other players watching, Also important to keep a quality relationship with the Agent. Let’s be thought of as professional and classy organization.

Unfortunate all the way round.

Yeah, Pens fan here that wanted to see exactly what happened. Plus, it means our prospect, Sergei Murashov, may be coming to the US sooner than later. But, I definitely agree with just terminating it. He’s lost all value and the Flyers have had some weird encounters with prospects lately.

Probably best to look good for other kids/prospects who are wondering what’s going on.

I met and talked to Briere last summer outside of Ott’s in Voorhees NJ. We actually had a brief conversation, seems like a good guy and probably reasonable. If spoken to as a mature person, something probably would have been worked out. Like, express your concerns, doubts, whatever and then go from there! Not that hard! As for the opinion of AHL vs KHL?! Won’t he be playing on the lower KHL team this year?!

Romus

“lower level KHL team”….all the teams in the KHL are on the same schedule….they do have a minor affiliation league , like the NHL has with the AHL, it is called the MHL…..for example Canadiens took Ivan Demidov as the 5th pick…he played in the KHL minor leagues-the MHL……Michkov, on the other hand, last year played in the regular KHL with Sochi and the year prior when the Flyers drafted him..

Another prospect who doesn’t want to play in Philadelphia…

Not Offsides

And, as typical of kids today, unable or unwilling to own it in a face-to-face discussion. Don’t talk, don’t show up.

FatEagle

Sounds to me its a case of he doesn’t want to play in Lehigh Valley and ride a bus to places like Rochester or Utica

Jay95

Yep. Though the KHL is poor compared to the NHL’s treatment of players, they get a ton more than the AHL. Sounds like the kid has dreams of playing in the NHL, but doesn’t want to put in the work in the US to get there.

I say just release his rights. I’m. A Pen’s fan so take that with a grain of salt, but it doesn’t seem worth the headache or possible bad publicity of another unhappy prospect… At least that’s the way it will appear.

BIGE88

I’m not worried . It’s Ersson and the big Russian goalie for next 2 seasons

if neither can’t be a starter to win a cup we can get hellybucky or Binnington for our cup in 3 or 4 years . Jets and blues are in no mans land with directionless moves last 4 years

I like ersson . Give him a chance with our full defense all playing together for once . He will have 3 outstanding defensive defenders with Seeler and risto and Johnson back there

BullyFan

This assessment is just YIKES!!
My god, Binnington as a starter for a cup run in 3-4 years?
Jets being in no man’s land? They were 5th in the league last season!
Risto and Johnson being called outstanding?!
How many years has it been since you watched the NHL?

Not Offsides

Soon, we will be able to ice a team of players who don’t want to play for us:

G – Alexei Kolosov
D – Ryan Ellis
D – Torey Krug
C – Ryan Johansen
LW – Cutter Gauthier
RW –

Just need a right wing.

Not Offsides

Oh, if you don’t buy the headache story, you could put Nolan Patrick at right wing.

Everyone didn’t hear Briere when he said Kolosov will be playing here this year. Also they missed the pictures posted of him at a work out smiling and wearing a Flyers face mask with a Phantoms jersey on. That doesn’t sound like someone who wants to bail. Not only that Briere knows how to deal with the Russian players and I’m sure he is not going to let a top prospect walk. He may not know how to draft but he does know how to deal with the Russians. So relax!

Quit buying into the hype he’s not going anywhere!

Bill M

I bought hype Biden and Democrats were in it to help middle class working families . I lost on that one , now I’m buying hype this guy is gone hope I get one right
