In Thursday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

Today is all about Ryan Johansen and the Philadelphia Flyers!

It’s a short one today, but I noticed online that many people seem to be missing some of the facts in the Johansen debacle. A lot of folks have said that Johansen is faking an injury and things of that nature.

So, in response, and using the work I have already done in the past, I decided to flesh out a full timeline of the Ryan Johansen saga with the Flyers, which you can find in the link. It’s important that Flyers fans have the full suite of facts as this case intensifies and heats up over the coming days and weeks.

So, the Montreal Canadiens went out and got Patrik Laine in a blockbuster trade that, for all intents and purposes, is a big win for the Habs. Now what?

Above is the latest Canadiens depth chart, courtesy of Marc Dumont, where Laine is the oldest player in the top-six forward group. He’s only 26 years old!

On paper, Laine would have been a great fit with the Flyers, but there are already too many defense-adverse wingers in Philadelphia, plus Laine did not have the best of times playing under Flyers head coach John Tortorella with the Columbus Blue Jackets a few years back.

Johansen may have been ailing…..but still was able to play 60 plus games for the Avs before the trade. Then again, what hockey player after 5 months of grinding hockey is 100% healthy come March and April. For their part, the Flyers did show a hip issue in their medical evals…..but he and his agent and assume their own medical people, decided it was not severe enough for invasive surgery and there in lies the downfall in their appeal, along with his Avs’ participation in 63 games thru the year. The ‘material breach’ should stand up after league review.. And he will get some settlement in this case I am sure….and the Flyers will get some cap relief…everyone wins and everyone moves on.
