Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Transactions; Devils Wanted Askarov
In Sunday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
As it turns out, the Philadelphia Flyers actually added a pair of goaltenders to their AHL ranks this summer, presumably with the intention of them playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the 2024-25 season.
The problem? The Phantoms now have three AHL goalies after re-signing Parker Gahagen and signing Keith Petruzzelli to supplement incumbent starter Cal Petersen in the minors.
That, of course, doesn’t include enigmatic Belarusian prospect Alexei Kolosov, who may or may not return to North America and report to the Flyers organization prior to the start of training camp and the NHL preseason.
In short, the Flyers are carrying a bunch of goalies, which is neither a good nor a bad thing. But you have to figure that the Flyers are covering their bases with Kolosov.
NHL News
Even after trading for veteran stud goalie Jacob Markstrom, the New Jersey Devils were reportedly finalists in the Yaroslav Askarov sweepstakes, alongside the Montreal Canadiens.
Ultimately, as we know, the Nashville Predators ended up sending Askarov to the San Jose Sharks for a package that included top prospect David Edstrom and the Vegas Golden Knights’ first-round pick, which is top-10 protected.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, much like the Flyers, are far too bloated at certain positions on their roster, thus restricting Kyle Dubas and Co.’s ability to fully flesh out a competitive roster in the twilight years of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang.
So, how do Dubas and the Pens plan on solving their problems? There is only one way through. Following the Rutger McGroarty trade, expect the Penguins to get after it on the NHL trade market once again, wheeling and dealing more assets and players.
The only thing I HATE more than the devils is the penguins .
im glad the 2 headed monster of malkin and Crosby is over with letang as the #1 d man
devils are the new headache for next 10 years . I like nico hischier as the #1 center . Jack Hughes as the sniper center is okay , I just don’t like Hughes as much . Dustin brown lite is what Hughes reminds me of . Gretzky too with Hughes .
hughes brother on defense is something . All 3 Hughes brothers are something . Throw in nemac as the new niedermayer . Yikes 😬
