Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Legend’s Career in Review; McGroarty Trade Reaction
In Monday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
The NHL really got the people talking when the social media admin posted a graphic of Claude Giroux, asking if the longtime Philadelphia Flyers captain is Hockey Hall of Fame material at this stage of his career.
In my column, I personally feel that if Giroux retired today, the former Flyers forward would not make the cut.
However, I was more fascinated to see the drastic differences in opinion among Flyers fans. Some fans, primarily on Facebook, felt that there was no chance Giroux qualifies for such an honor. Others, those who are mainly on Twitter and receptive to advanced stats, believe that Giroux is a surefire Hall of Famer.
Lastly, we got a little nugget from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on the Ryan Johansen situation.
“I’m told the key will be everyone navigating how he went from not missing games and practices in Colorado to how he was unable to play for either Philadelphia or AHL Lehigh Valley,” Friedman offered in his latest edition of “32 Thoughts”.
NHL News
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had a busy offseason, trading for Cody Glass and former Flyers forward Kevin Hayes, but their biggest move to date was moving top prospect Brayden Yager for Rutger McGroarty, a collegiate star likely ready for the NHL.
It’s likely that McGroarty, who projects to be a winger at the NHL level, develops into a player in the mold of Chris Kunitz or Pascal Dupuis for the Penguins, though it’s a lot to ask of a 20-year-old rookie right now.
The Penguins love their new top prospect, and so do the fans!
It remains to be seen where exactly McGroarty plays in his rookie season, but left wing in the middle-six seems like a safe bet for now.
My guess the Pens will team up McGroarty on Syd’s line…..he can’t help but shine.
I think that would be a great fit for him! Sid thrives with those kinds of players playing next to him
