Philadelphia Flyers news

In Friday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the Philadelphia Flyers have added another goalie. Seriously, another one!

This one isn’t on a real contract, at least not yet. Former San Jose Sharks goaltender Eetu Makiniemi has signed a professional tryout offer with the Flyers, as per his agency, so he’ll give the team at least one more goalie to shoot at during training camp.

If Makiniemi does get a contract, expect him to compete with Cal Petersen and, perhaps, Alexei Kolosov for playing time in the AHL for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

In that case, Parker Gahagen and the recently signed Keith Petruzzelli will man the crease for the Reading Royals in the ECHL.

NHL News

For whatever reason, Flyers fans love to hop online and troll Montreal Canadiens fans (and vice versa) as the two fanbases bicker about whether Matvei Michkov and Ivan Demidov are better players than one another.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Ivan Demidov was absolutely the dream scenario for the Flyers in the 2024 NHL Draft, and it obviously didn’t work out that way.

Maybe it’s being a real hater, or really committing to the bit, but both are really good players. We’ll see who’s better than who in due time.

For now, Michkov is in the NHL already and about to play in his first full NHL season with the Flyers, while Demidov is gearing up for a full-time role in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg.

As you probably would have imagined, Demidov is already putting people on YouTube videos, ripping off highlight after highlight in the KHL preseason. The 18-year-old’s most recent victims were his own teammates, as Demidov led the Russian U23s to a shootout win over SKA on Thursday.

the best thing that could come of the Demidov situation is that they push each other to greatness. Lets go Matvie!

“Calgary Sun‘s Wes Gilbertson reports Flames GM Craig Conroy informed cap-strapped teams that he’s willing to take a contract off their hands, provided a sweetener like a draft pick or prospect is included in the deal. The Flames have nearly $20 million in cap space this season”. ……..how about it Danny…Risto and Emil Andrae to the Flames to get $5M in cap relief.
