Bailey’s Daily: Michkov Dazzles; Ivan Demidov Already Rotting on SKA
In Friday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
The annual Philadelphia Flyers rookie camp kicked off in a big way on Thursday, with young future stars Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko leading the way for the Orange and Black.
Defenseman Hunter McDonald, who is an internal favorite of the front office, also had an impressive outing on the ice, frequently getting into scuffles and knocking people over. I would say that he, Michkov, Luchanko, Oliver Bonk, and Alexis Gendron were some of the more noticeable skaters on Day 1.
Michkov deservedly got lots of high praise, with compliments raining in from Lehigh Valley Phantoms head coach Ian Laperriere, Luchanko, and Flyers defenseman Emil Andrae.
Speaking of Andrae, Laperriere was also very pleased with how the young Swede attacked his summer training and believes that Andrae is poised for another NHL run after appearing in four games for the Flyers at the beginning of last season.
NHL News
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but top Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov is already rotting away on KHL club SKA St. Petersburg.
Demidov opened his debut KHL season with an assist in 14:02 of ice time in a 5-4 loss to Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Since then, his time dropped to 13:36, then to 10:02, and then to around eight minutes before garbage time rolled around in a 3-0 loss to Traktor Chelyabinsk on Thursday.
All in all, SKA, a team widely considered to be a KHL powerhouse, has lost their last two games by a combined score of 5-0, failing to score even a single goal while a star talent in Demidov barely plays.
Flyers fans will recall that Michkov had to endure similar treatment before moving on loan to HK Sochi and flourishing there ahead of his surprise move to Philadelphia this summer.
