Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Battles Take Shape; Demidov Doubters
In Tuesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
Well, that could have gone better, right? The Philadelphia Flyers got smoked in their second preseason game of 2024, taking a 5-0 beating at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Monday night.
No Flyers goals means no fun, and a number of defensive breakdowns resulted in pucks going in the wrong net. Defensemen Hunter McDonald and Ronnie Attard are two hopefuls aiming to make the Flyers’ NHL roster this year, but their performances were less than inspiring and have likely penciled them in for another year in the AHL, barring a monster game down the stretch.
Finnish goalie Eetu Makiniemi, who is attending training camp on a professional tryout offer, looked pretty solid in his 1.5 periods in the crease. Veteran Cal Petersen was the opposite, surrendering a goal on each of the first three shots he faced in the third period.
Overall, Petersen allowed four goals on 12 shots, while Makiniemi stopped 13 of 14. If Makiniemi gets a contract from the Flyers at the end of this, it would not be a surprise to see him eventually take over the net for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
NHL News
Speaking of the Montreal Canadiens, top prospect Ivan Demidov has had an interesting season so far. In some games, he hardly plays. In others, he takes over.
Now, some internet sleuths and skeptics are questioning whether Demidov is even a good skater. No, really!
Once upon a time, people thought Brayden Point was a below-average skater, and since then, the Tampa Bay Lightning superstar has become one of the league’s fastest and most elusive down the middle. Leon Draisaitl, who just signed a monster contract with the Edmonton Oilers, doesn’t have the cleanest skating stride ever, but he still puts up more points in a season than a lot of guys have in their careers.
Not to say Demidov is going to be those guys… but if it works, it works!
Peterson played. Enough said. The human sieve should be playing for the Reading Royals.
Maybe they can pay Cal P $5 million next year to clean the locker room!!?! He is not an NHL goalie
Power skating is the KEY kids!!! Anyone who has kids that want to play , concentrate on power skating vs more games when your young
this article is true , Brayden point was well below Nolan patrick at one point . We can’t compare patrick today because of injuries . But his massive upside was due to the lightning doing extensive power skating with him . Brayden point is a rock star #1 center . Can score in front of net and can snipe against the best
not sure about Demidov. I will make my own decisions once I see him against nhl size and nhl lengthy defenseman in big boy hockey !!!
The genius of dumping Provorov (an offensive 2 way guy) was to draft bonk (drafted specifically to be the defensive top pair with drysdale)
everyone knocking York and sanheim last year doesn’t know what they are talking about . They were forced to play with each other becuase of default . U want each pair on defense to have an offensive guy and defensive guy . Of course york and sanheim will eventually be on seperate pairings when everyone is o healthy
it’s called building a hockey team the correct way . Chuck and Briere and flahr have done a masterful job . Bonk will be up this time next year guaranteed
6 years to build a hockey team . We will be Stanley cup ready in 2 years with all pieces . Book it
