Flyers’ Alexei Kolosov Making Surprise Return to North America

According to multiple reports and from the words of agent Dan Milstein, top Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Alexei Kolosov is suddenly returning to North America to participate in training camp and the NHL preseason.

Kolosov, 22, previously chose not to report for the Flyers for the annual development camp in July or for rookie camp and training camp in recent weeks after having played two games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL last season.

Milstein, who recently started representing Kolosov, has confirmed that the Belarusian goalie is on his way back to Philadelphia.

“Alexei Kolosov flies to Philadelphia, there is no disagreement between the player and the club. We made a certain decision. I can say that Alexei will participate in the training camp and in the Flyers’ games,” Milstein told Championat correspondent Pavel Panyshev.

Flyers fans may recall that Finnish goalie Eetu Makiniemi just signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia on Wednesday and was expected to share the crease in the AHL with veteran Cal Petersen, so it would appear there is now a wrinkle in those plans once Kolosov returns.

Further to that point, Flyers general manager Danny Briere felt in his training camp press conference that Kolosov wanted “to be guaranteed a spot in the NHL,” and Sam Ersson and Ivan Fedotov currently occupy those two roster spots.

There is always the possibility that the Flyers carry three goalies during the regular season and figure out a rotation, but that is less likely.

An immediate solution to some of these concerns is obviously not forthcoming, but it appears that, for all intents and purposes, Kolosov is giving the NHL dream and life in North America one more shot.

Send him to the Reading Royals!!

That’s where Cal Petersen belongs

As we have all too well witnessed, you can never have enough good goaltending.Hopefully the competition in net during the preseason can bring out the best in one of the goalies, and they can stabilize that position for a change.

Amazing…..a day after the Flyers sign goalie Eetu Mak. and this transpires….what a coincidence!.

GMan

At least now the team can see how he adjusts to the North American game and the smaller rink. Much better than trading him for a possible second round pick, which would have been a knee jerk reaction.

Not really…Ersson and fellow Russian Fodotov will be in goal for awhile…..then there is Russian goalie Egor Z. starting to show more promise and at a younger age, then Kolosov. It is reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, “Kolosov could play some exhibition games and with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, but an eventual loan back to the KHL is possible”. The guy has become a distraction for the organization….jettison him out..

I hope this works out because I’m not sold on either Ersson or Fedotov even less so. I’m not negative on either but not convinced either is a starter. As Mark stated you never can have enough good goaltending. We all recall the Flyers 2018-2019 season when they used 8 goalies.

Mark

I definitely agree with your comment on the two goalies you mentioned.Errson especially would stand on his head for 3 or 4 games, and then look like he never played the position before. The defense in front of him should be better if risto stays healthy, the team just needs the goalie to make the timely save.

I’m watching flyers and Ersson looks very good

all these nothingburger goalie headlines

Jesus is Lord

Good another goalie prospect to throw in the mix! Turn on the blender and let the chips fall where they may! Ersson looks good Fedotov looks good let’s see what this kid can do!!!
