Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Thrilled for Michkov; Devils Add Another Young Star?
In Friday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
The Philadelphia Flyers are currently undefeated in the NHL preseason with teenage sensation Matvei Michkov in their lineup.
Michkov is up to four points in his inaugural preseason campaign and managed to pick up his first goal and first two points at the Wells Fargo Center in front of the home crowd on Thursday night.
“We can tell he just loves the game and he wants to score,” Flyers All-Star Travis Konecny said of Michkov after the 2-0 win over the Islanders. “We’ve been all giving him a hard time that he hasn’t scored in any of the games yet, so I’m sure he’s excited about that.”
Away from the ice, the NHLPA has moved to file a grievance on behalf of Ryan Johansen, so don’t expect the Flyers to retain much of the cap space they received after terminating Johansen’s contract. It’s unclear how long it’ll take for the process to run its course, but the Flyers would just be happy to be under the salary cap ceiling for opening night.
Raise your hand if you had this one on your training camp bingo card: Alexei Kolosov is returning to the Flyers organization and will take part in training camp and what remains of the NHL preseason.
We’ll have more on this later, but Kolosov is running it back in North America and will have a legitimate chance to play NHL games should he earn the opportunity.
NHL News
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but another young dynamo defenseman is pushing hard to make the New Jersey Devils roster ahead of the start of the 2024-25 season.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe and Devils superstar Jack Hughes are both enamored with how Seamus Casey, a 2022 second-round pick, has performed in the advanced stages of training camp and in the preseason.
Let’s go down the list now… Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Anton Silayev, and Casey.
And lest we forget that the Devils now have Brenden Dillon and Brett Pesce in addition to those guys and Dougie Hamilton. Michkov and the Flyers are going to hate playing against that for the next decade.
“Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Anton Silayev, and Casey. And lest we forget that the Devils now have Brenden Dillon and Brett Pesce in addition to those guys and Dougie Hamilton”………..I can remember 5 years ago when it was 22-year olds Provy, Sanheim, Myers, Ghost, Hagg, Morin and vet Gudas….and how quickly that unraveled.
No comparison. Hughes, Nemec, and Silayev are all Norris Trophy-caliber talents, while none of those Flyer players you mentioned are even top pairing defenders. Dynasty brewing in North Jersey.
LOL……we will see in time.
I don’t know who negatived u . But I agree with your analysis
I can spot #1 d men from day 1 . Ditto for backstops
#1 d men and backstops are only defenseman u take in top 10 . I think New Jersey has hit pay dirt . Hughes looks ultra talented . I’m a little irritated. If he can handle the physicality he Will probably be their Sanheim but a whole level better .
nemac looks like niedermayer clone
our guys were all a joke in our own end from day 1
New Jersey in 4 years will have cup . Hopefully we get ours just before
Silayev hasn’t played a single regular season game yet, but you consider him a Norris Trophy candidate. Can I have some of what you’re smoking?
From day 1 that was a joke . Ghost couldn’t play defense AT ALL. Steve duchesne 2.0 . The rest are all crappy offensive d man . No comparison to what’s brewing in New Jersey .
identify #1 d men and backstops when I see them right away . None of those guys flyers had in 2016 were worth anything from day 1
Sanheim is a legit 2nd pair (offemse ) 2 way guy . The rest were all garbage from beginning despite what flyers fans thought at the time . Provorov had cement wrists . Hextall bombed that pick
Hindsight is always 20/20. Why don’t you submit your resume to Keith Jones?
so don’t expect the Flyers to retain much of the cap space they received after terminating Johansen’s contract … this is the problem with sports journalism today. How do you know the flyers will not be retaining the cap space? How do you know? Do you have inside info? It’s your job to tell me something I don’t already know. Maybe do some digging and find out.. It is not your job to make baseless statements based on nothing. Be better
I can’t tell if this is a serious comment or if I’m being trolled… As explained in the original article, the precedent is for the two sides to reach a settlement, meaning Johansen would receive some but not all of his money.
Dougie Hamilton is a joke . He’s a failed #1. Always looks good against bad teams . Buckles when things get tough . That’s why he’s been passed around . He won’t be there when it’s geaux time in New Jersey
dillon is just there for some muscle until the big Russian is ready as their optical backstop . Could be years . But nemac looks like their #1. Hughes looks good too . Hughes is a legit 2 way guy in Sanheim mold .
