Flyers @ Bruins: Luchanko in the Mix; Final Tune-Up
John Tortorella will be behind the bench coaching the Philadelphia Flyers for the first time this preseason when his squad faces the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass., at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
For Tortorella and the Flyers, Tuesday night’s game will largely serve as the final tune-up ahead of the start of the 2024-25 season.
Incumbent starter Sam Ersson will get his final preseason game after having a 37-save shutout against the New York Islanders on Thursday, while veteran Cal Petersen backs him up.
As for the skaters, the Flyers are fielding a lineup almost entirely comprised of NHL regulars, headlined by Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, and Matvei Michkov.
Let’s check out the game rosters:
Flyers Lines

What I’m Watching
For the Flyers, there are no real surprises here. Elliot Desnoyers and Jacob Gaucher are up from Lehigh Valley Phantoms training camp to give the Flyers some games here at the end of the preseason.
Jett Luchanko and Oliver Bonk could very well be playing in their last preseason games of the year, though it’s also possible they get one last chance against the New Jersey Devils (Utica Comets, really) on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Center.
Bonk is almost assuredly not going to make the NHL roster this year, and while Luchanko is still “in the picture” according to Tortorella, he hasn’t shown enough to completely change the outline for his development plan just yet.
On the other hand, Michkov will be facing an essentially full NHL squad for the first time in his young career, so we’ll see how the Flyers rookie manages the competition and if he can keep up his scintillating offensive production.
Also, with no Olle Lycksell in the lineup on Tuesday, the Flyers may be trying to evaluate Anthony Richard on his own to get a better understanding of where he is in terms of the roster battle with Lycksell.
Having both players in the lineup on the same line won’t do anybody any favors, as it’s harder to stand out individually.
Nice article, Jonathan. More importantly, thinking about you and hope things are improving for you!
Thanks, Steve! It’s a work in progress still but I’m working at it
