In Thursday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

Thursday will mark the last exhibition game of 2024 for the Philadelphia Flyers, who have enjoyed a good, but not great, preseason run to this point.

Head coach John Tortorella found that the competition, particularly on the defensive side of things with a potential opening for an eighth player, was lackluster. Defenseman Adam Ginning, who got an extended run with the Flyers at the end of last season, entered training camp as the clubhouse favorite in that regard.

Instead, his performances in training camp and the preseason have left much to be desired, opening the door for fellow Swede Emil Andrae, who opened last season on the NHL roster, to come in and take the reins instead.

So, who makes the Flyers roster, and who does not? That should be decided soon, and potentially as early as Friday morning.

NHL News

Some reports have indicated that a Jeremy Swayman trade is at least a possibility after Boston Bruins president Cam Neely made some incendiary comments about the Swayman contract negotiations on Monday.

Adding further fuel to that fire is the fact that the Bruins claimed Vancouver Canucks goalie Jiri Patera off waivers on Wednesday, which is notable for a few reasons.

One reason is that Bruins goalie prospect Brandon Bussi, who defeated the Flyers in a 4-1 preaseason loss for the Orange and Black on Tuesday night, has never appeared in an NHL regular season game.

Because newcomer Joonas Korpisalo has been pressed into action as Boston’s de facto starting goalie, the team no longer has a viable, NHL-caliber backup in the absence of Swayman.

That is, until they claimed Patera, who has a 3-3-1 record in the NHL during his time with the Vegas Golden Knights. The 25-year-old has only been okay in a small sample size, putting up a 3.57 GAA and a .902 save percentage, but he’s better than anyone else the Bruins have behind Korpisalo currently.

When you start an article with the title ” Flyers Roster Prediction”, people usually expect your “prediction” of the “flyers roster” somewhere in the article. Heard of the expression ” fake news”? This falls under “fake title”.

Jeremy Swayman is trying to set a new market for goalies….the man needs to sway a little on his contract demands. Though Lew Gross posted, no offer was made at $64M. Swayman may need to keep a bag packed….tough having a cordial relationship with the GM now.

Torts on Ginning:
“I thought Ginning was one that we had kind of penciled in there; I think he has had a bad camp….”
Torts does not believe in sugar coating anything.

It may rub some people the wrong way, but I think Torts knows that and purposely says these kind of things to get a reaction from a player. If a player battling for a roster spot cannot handle this kind of criticism from the head coach, he probably doesn’t have the mental make up to last long term in the NHL anyway.
