Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Keep Jett Luchanko; Ivan Demidov Benched Again?

In Tuesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
Not that we did not already know this, but 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko has officially made the Philadelphia Flyers roster on the heels of an impressive training camp, which started back with development camp at the beginning of July.
Luchanko, who turned 18 years old only six weeks ago, will make history during Friday’s Flyers game against Vancouver as he will become the youngest player in franchise history.
Even though the early signs are certainly encouraging, Luchanko’s development in the offensive zone will ultimately determine how good of a draft pick he was.
In other Flyers prospect news, 19-year-old Russian goalie Egor Zavragin was named KHL Rookie of the Week after winning both of his starts and posting a shutout for the lowly HC Sochi.
In six games, Zavragin is 3-3-0 with a .941 save percentage, which is historically good. Now let’s see how long he keeps it up.
NHL News
What is going on with SKA St. Petersburg?
Don’t blink now, but top Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov has played no more than 7:32 in any of his last four games with SKA.
As follows, his ice time totals are *checks notes* 5:31, 3:22, 4:07, and 7:32. Unsurprisingly, Demidov’s squad lost two of those games.
Suddenly, it doesn’t look so bad that Flyers rookie sensation Matvei Michkov had to take a loan to Sochi, not once, but twice, in order to get ice time in the KHL away from SKA.
SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg appears committed to further playing Demidov in this capacity despite the fact that it is clearly not healthy for his development as a player, and especially as a player playing on a team that is currently grossly underachieving expectations.
Demidov more than likely needs to play better defense or as they say, the 200-foot game….it is not all about offense in the professional levels…and the KHL is second to the NHL in skill level and experienced players. .
I think that Rottenberg is just prepositioned to be against younger players and wants them to learn the ropes and come up the ladder gradually even if the youngster has an above average pedigree. He did the same exact thing that he is currently doing to Demidov this year that he did with Michkov last year. If Demidov doesn’t get loaned out, he could be stuck getting minimal ice time which could stunt his progress. With the cockiness of the Habs fans and many online saying that Demidov will be better than Michkov, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
no thanks, let the kid play somewhere, Matvei doesn’t need help from anyone, his merits will stand on their own. Demidov looks to be a fantastic player, and if the Flyers somehow could have drafted him, we’d be pissed that he isn’t playing enough.
But we didn’t draft him, he’s a Canadian. And with the @$$hole fans of the Habs drooling all over him, let the kid rot.
