Flyers Prospect Expected to do ‘Something Impressive’ with New Team

With a new team comes new expectations. Such is life for Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Egor Zavragin, a 2023 third-round pick quickly ascending the worldwide totem pole at his position.

Zavragin, 19, joined KHL powerhouse SKA St. Petersburg in an offseason transfer away from Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk and was subsequently loaned to HC Sochi, a team commonly used as a developmental stepping stone.

Flyers fans can look no further than rookie sensation Matvei Michkov as proof for that.

After six impressive games with Sochi where Zavragin compiled a 3-3-0 record, a .941 save percentage, and a shutout, SKA decided to bring the Flyers prospect back and terminate the loan early.

Zavragin’s agent, Alexander Chernykh, has high hopes for his client as a result of the big change.

“Zavragin has a valid contract, and, accordingly, the rights belong to SKA. Today, the coaching staff and management have made this decision, and they believe that Egor will strengthen the team’s goalie brigade. So he got ready and went,” Chernykh said.

“I can’t speak for the SKA coaching staff, but most likely, yes,” Chernykh added when asked if Zavragin’s parent club was enticed by his early performances. “Egor has very good potential, we expect something impressive from him. This is not only my opinion, but also that of many goalkeeping experts. We hope that Egor Zavragin will please us with his good performance in SKA just as he did in Sochi, that he will help the team win.”

The Flyers’ third-round pick has already played one game for SKA since returning from loan, relieving Artemi Pleshkov and playing the full third period in a 4-2 loss to Dinamo Minsk on Thursday.

In his limited action, Zavragin stopped three of four shots and was only beaten by an Ilya Usov one-timer that went off the post and in, following some terrible defending from SKA.
