In Monday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

As it turns out, at least through two games, Matvei Michkov is the only player on the Philadelphia Flyers who can consistently create offense, and usually does so out of thin air.

The 19-year-old rookie sensation was at his best this weekend when paired with fellow playmakers Morgan Frost, who each bring something a little different to the table.

Head coach John Tortorella tried to use Michkov with other centers, like Ryan Poehling and Sean Couturier. The results were not great, so, hopefully, that won’t be a thing again any time soon.

Speaking of Flyers centers, Jett Luchanko sat out the team’s second game of the season – the second leg of a season-opening back-to-back – for what was essentially ascribed to maintenance by Tortorella.

Many fans online were not happy with the decision, as Luchanko played a strong but not flawless game in his NHL debut in a 3-2 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night.

Luchanko has played only one of the nine games allotted before the organization has to choose whether to keep him or send him back to the OHL, so it looks like the Flyers are trying to keep him around the team as long as they can, for now, without burning through the first nine games so quickly.

NHL News

The Colorado Avalanche are off to an 0-2-0 start, and things are not looking so great in Denver at the moment.

Alexandar Georgiev hasn’t been able to stop a parked car in his two starts this season, and his backup, Justus Annunen, hasn’t fared much better. As a result, the Avs claimed former Devils and Sharks goalie Kaapo Kahkonen on waivers, but he was on waivers for a reason.

Head coach Jared Bednar is hoping “it’s just a blip on the radar” for a group in Colorado that is accustomed to winning, aging fast, and without two of its top forwards in Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin.

Oh, and Jonathan Drouin and Artturi Lehkonen are out, too.

The Avalanche will soon be circling the bowl if they can’t stop the bleeding soon.

“circling the bowl” ? That’s pretty dramatic!!! How about 2 games in, things aren’t good but “circling the bowl”? Look @ the oilers? We might be playing bad and we are but georgiev has been terrible, the Avalanche play poorly in front of him. They can turn it around starting tonight so GO AVS!!!

0-3 and true NHL fans know that the AVS are too good to be playing like this, but flyers fans realize we have your first round pick in the 25′ Draft and are hoping for lots of Colorado losses..

It will be interesting to see how things work out if Fedorov cannot maintain consistency for a prolonged period of time.

If you’re referring to Fedotov, Kolosov is currently residing in Allentown ready to pounce on the first opportunity of a call up if called upon.

Kolosov looked pretty good the other night vs the Rangers’ farm team…cat like across the crease.

Avs must be keeping their fingers crossed on Gabriel Landeskog…..oft-injured lately, the 32-year old still has 4 more years, after this year, on his $7M AAV cap hit contract.

I believe Luchanko sitting out is a sign he’ll be staying up with the Flyers. I feel he will have off days all season to give his body time to adjust to the rigors of the NHL. If he’s only going to play 9 games, make it the first 9 then send him to Guelph to tear up the juniors. They need him this year. I think by the end of the season, he’ll be centering Miechkov. Frost is doing solid, but if he gets injured, Miechkov’s talents will be wasted playing with any other center. He needs to be with someone dynamic.
