Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Lineup Changes; Canadiens Trade Rumors

In Saturday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
The seemingly endless changes to the Philadelphia Flyers lineup has been a constant source of debate amongst fans in the early part of the 2024-25 season.
Head coach John Tortorella offered some insight into his decision-making process after Friday morning’s practice, explaining that his goal is only to try and help the team perform in the best way possible.
In some instances, that means moving guys around constantly, like Tortorella has. The veteran coach is trying anything to find a spark for his struggling players, and perhaps most importantly, trying to find two consistent linemates who can hold up playing next to star rookie Matvei Michkov.
One player seemingly eliminated from that conversation, at least for now, is fellow rookie Jett Luchanko, whose return to the OHL Guelph Storm is imminent.
Luchanko sat out both games against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday and Wednesday and participated as an extra forward during Friday’s practice, so he’s destined to sit out Saturday’s matchup with the Minnesota Wild as well.
NHL News
Well, that didn’t take long.
Just a few weeks into the 2024-25 season, Montreal Canadiens trade rumors are already surfacing as the Martin St. Louis-led club is struggling badly with its depth on defense.
Coming into the season with two career NHL games under his belt, 20-year-old defenseman Lane Hutson has played no fewer than 24 minutes in his last four games, including a 30:05 affair against the LA Kings on Oct. 17.
You can hide young forwards at the NHL level, but you can’t hide young defensemen. Hutson and the Canadiens are getting a crash course on player development the hard way early on this season.
New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe has not been a fan of the refereeing he’s been getting around the NHL lately.
Quite frankly, after seeing some of the calls made against the Flyers this season, it’s hard to disagree with him.
After blasting Kelly Sutherland for a questionable goalie interference call on Tuesday, Keefe and the Devils were again on the receiving end of a controversial penalty call, this time involving veteran defenseman Brenden Dillon.
Detroit forward Christian Fischer clocked Dillon in the numbers and sent him face-first into the boards on Thursday night. Dillon got up, retaliated, and eventually dropped the mitts with Fischer as the two fought.
Fischer’s hit went unpunished, Dillon was tagged for roughing, and the Devils went to the penalty kill. Detroit scored almost immediately.
“Those are the kind of things that didn’t go our way today,” Keefe stammered angrily after the game.
