Flyers Game
Flyers @ Bruins Live Blog: Ersson’s 24 Saves Drag Philadelphia to Key Win
Matvei Michkov, Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Rasmus Ristolainen are the starting skaters for the Philadelphia Flyers against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Tuesday night.
Tuesday night’s Flyers starting goalie is Sam Ersson, who will face off with Joonas Korpisalo of the Bruins.
First period
20:00 – Puck has been dropped at TD Garden.
Two early friendly observations: it looks like Aleksei Kolosov is the backup goalie tonight for the Flyers ahead of Ivan Fedotov, who is a healthy scratch for the second game in a row. I’m also a fan of reuniting that fourth line of Noah Cates, Ryan Poehling, and Garnet Hathaway.
18:32 – How does Bobby Brink not score from there? What a save from Joonas Korpisalo to the right of his goal crease! Great first shift from Brink, Scott Laughton, and Joel Farabee.
Travis Sanheim undressed Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei behind the net and got the puck out in front for Brink there. Brink understandably furious on the bench after getting robbed by Korpisalo.
14:54 – Nice defensive play from Emil Andrae to break up a rush chance from Brad Marchand, who slipped behind the defense on an awkward pass. Scott Laughton goes to the box for a cross checking penalty.
14:20 – David Pastrnak draws another Flyers penalty, this time Travis Sanheim for hooking. Flyers faced with a 5-on-3 penalty kill early in this one.
12:34 – Scott Laughton exits the box and feeds Garnet Hathaway on a 2-on-1, but Korpisalo makes the glove save. Erik Johnson alertly sprung Laughton down the ice with a stretch pass.
12:00 – Flyers survive the 5-on-3 Bruins power play no worse for wear.
7:40 – Strong shift from the Owen Tippett, Morgan Frost, and Tyson Foerster line ends with a Tippett shot wide of the net despite being in a good scoring position. Story of the season so far.
5:20 – Ersson makes a huge back post save on Elias Lindholm after a long offensive zone shift from the Bruins. That’s at least the second time Nick Seeler and Jamie Drysdale have been caught for a long shift after failing to clear the zone.
00:00 – Flyers and Bruins are tied 0-0 at the end of the first period. Bruins lead in shots, 11-8.
Second period
20:00 – Puck has dropped for the start of the second period.
17:20 – Rasmus Ristolainen’s one-timer attempt from the right point looked destined to beat Korpisalo, but it hit Foerster in the shoulder instead. Foerster in a bit of discomfort skating off the ice there.
15:52 – Drysdale is injured after taking a hard slap shot to the midsection. It took him a long time to get back to his feet and skated to the bench hunched over, aided by head athletic trainer Tommy Alva.

14:25 – Tyson Foerster opens the scoring from the high slot on the feed from Andrae. Congratulations to Emil Andrae on his first NHL point!
14:06 – Brandon Carlo gives the Flyers a power play after a slashing penalty against Sean Couturier. Drysdale has returned to the Flyers’ bench.
12:05 – Bruins kill off the Carlo penalty. Certainly not the Flyers’ best power play effort of the season, though it was good to see Drysdale on the ice with the first unit.
7:04 – Morgan Frost is going to the penalty box for a high stick. Bruins are going to the power play.
5:00 – A scary scramble in front of Ersson after Travis Konecny loses his stick on the penalty kill. Ersson and Johnson are able to dive on the loose puck and stop play, ending the surge from Boston.
1:16 – Smart play from Farabee to skate the puck down the ice and dump it into a corner, allowing a number of tired Flyers to change after a 2+ minute shift in the defensive zone. Ersson standing tall in the net.
0:14 – Great backcheck from Tippett to stop a 2-on-1 chance for the Bruins. Tippett reached in on Brad Marchand and legally stole the puck away, helping the Flyers escape the period with a 1-0 lead.
Third period
20:00 – Puck has dropped for the start of the third period.
17:18 – Matvei Michkov tries the Michigan move, but Korpisalo was ready for it.
16:27 – Hathaway draws an interference penalty from Hampus Lindholm, so the Flyers will have a power play opportunity early in this third period.
15:35 – Ersson tries to poke the puck to Andrae behind his net, but the puck comes back between his legs and almost crosses the line for an own goal. The net came off the moorings as Ersson grabbed the loose puck. That was nearly a disaster for the Flyers.
14:27 – Flyers power play opportunity comes to an end. Andrae made some nice plays with the puck, but the power play units have had a hard time establishing possession tonight.
13:18 – The Flyers are going to the penalty kill after a too many men penalty.
11:22 – The Bruins ice the puck at the end of power play, dropping them down to 0-for-4 on the night.
9:49 – Poitras body slams Andrae away from the play, but Andrae retaliates and gives Poitras a straight left right on the button. The Flyers and Bruins come together for a melee after, with Konecny giving Poitras a few shots against the boards. Poitras and Andrae both get two minutes for roughing.
9:15 – Poehling fans on an excellent setup in front of the net. Could have doubled Philadelphia’s lead to 2-0 with a finish there.
4:43 – Flyers ice the puck with time trickling down. Korpisalo will likely be heading to the bench for an extra attacker soon. Great defensive effort from both sides this period.
3:02 – Couturier is stopped by Korpisalo on a breakaway, though Mason Lohrei did his best to haggle him on the backcheck and prevent any kind of move.
2:00 – The Bruins are getting booed as they have trouble keeping control of the puck with Korpisalo looking to head off the ice.
1:22 – Ristolainen ices the puck with 1:22 remaining. It nearly took a favorable deflection towards the empty net.
0:23 – Farabee hits the empty net on the backhand and the Flyers take a 2-0 lead. That’ll do it for this game. What an effort from the Flyers! That’s a 24-save shutout from Sam Ersson.
