In Wednesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

Not too long ago, in the recent past, nobody would have expected that the Philadelphia Flyers would get a shutout win over the Boston Bruins the way things were going.

But Sam Ersson and the Flyers shut it down on Tuesday night, with the Swedish goalie having a flawless performance and stopping all 23 (according to the NHL) shots sent his way. Ersson did his job, and the defense did theirs.

All they needed was Tyson Foerster’s goal, which was set up by Emil Andrae by way of the young defenseman’s first NHL point.

Andrae, 22, has been a major surprise, in a good way, after being called up on Saturday to replace the injured Cam York, who will be on injured reserve for at least the next two weeks. His early successes have come at the expense of fellow defenseman Egor Zamula, who served as a healthy scratch for the second game in a row on Tuesday night.

In case you missed it, the Connor McDavid injury could have some implications on the Flyers’ offseason plans, especially as it relates to the 2025 NHL Draft. It is currently unclear how long the Edmonton Oilers captain is supposed to be out for, but the team has already called up some players from the AHL to replace him in the interim.

That is usually a sign a player is going to miss some games. The most we know right now is that McDavid has left the team and returned to Edmonton to be further evaluated.

NHL News

Since defensemen Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce returned to the lineup, the New Jersey Devils have held out top defense prospect Simon Nemec as a healthy scratch.

Observant fans of the NHL, and especially Devils fans, can remember where they have seen this one before.

Former head coach Lindy Ruff deployed this tactic often with former top draft pick Alex Holtz, who was jettisoned to Vegas at the draft in June in exchange for Paul Cotter, a career bottom-six forward who was targeted via trade to explicitly fill an identifiable need.

The Devils and their fans are already hoping Nemec does not suffer the same fate as Holtz did.

Of similar interest to the Flyers, the Colorado Avalanche are going to be missing top forward Ross Colton for what is being preliminarily described as “some time”, per head coach Jared Bednar.

Colton was spotted leaving the arena in a walking boot on Monday night after blocking a shot with his foot. The 28-year-old was one of the NHL’s hottest goal-scorers before suffering his injury, as his eight goals this season currently ranks third in the NHL, trailing only Nico Hischier of the Devils and Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens.

On McDavid:
Appearing on TSN’s “Insider Trading,” ….NHL insider Chris Johnston hinted that the outlook may not be encouraging, noting that both McDavid and the Oilers are “still getting to the bottom of that situation.” “It’s not an insignificant injury,” Johnston warned. “The main reason (for not issuing an official update on Tuesday) is that he and the Oilers are still getting to the bottom of that situation,” Johnston said. “He flew back on Tuesday from Nashville, where the team was, to Edmonton. “It gave him a chance to get some imaging done and consult with the team’s medical staff. From that point, they’ll be able to determine exactly what kind of injury he’s dealing with.

Looks like McDavid will miss 5-7 games over the next few weeks with the ankle injury..
