The Philadelphia Flyers (4-8-1) are currently the worst team in the NHL, and things will not be getting any easier for them as they face the Tampa Bay Lightning (7-6-0) in Amalie Arena at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

The Lightning, who are on a three-game losing streak, will be desperate to put an end to their misfortunes in front of the home crowd. As for the Flyers? They will be without starting goalie Sam Ersson for the second game in a row, No. 1 defenseman Cam York remains on injured reserve, and top defensive center Ryan Poehling has been placed on IR as he tends to a family situation at home in Minnesota.

A small silver lining for the Flyers is that it looks like superstar Brayden Point will sit out another game after missing Tuesday’s game against St. Louis due to injury.

Rookie goalie Aleksei Kolosov, 22, is poised to make his third NHL start and second start in a row in the wake of Ersson’s injury. He’s 0-3-0 this season with a 3.92 GAA and a .863 save percentage.

For the second game in a row, the Flyers will face a former friend, this time in the form of winger Cam Atkinson, who scored 13 goals, 15 assists, and 28 points in 70 games for Philadelphia last season. Atkinson was subsequently bought out of his contract in the summer and signed a one-year deal with the Lightning on the second day of NHL free agency on July 2.

Atkinson is without a goal in his 10 games for the Bolts this season, but the last time he scored a goal in the NHL was on Jan. 23 – for the Flyers against the Lightning. Cam Atkinson anytime goal-scorer, anybody?

Cam Atkinson will get a hat trick against the Flyers tonight. That how the hockey gods and Flyers roll.

I think TSN is reporting that Michkov will be a healthy scratch tonight? https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/philadelphia-flyers-to-scratch-rookie-sensation-matvei-michkov-vs-lightning-1.2201408

For his development understand.
Another silver lining so far as the team struggles for points….team will be hording plenty of ping-pong balls for the lottery for June 2025…..James Hagens remains on the radar….and then 5 more picks thru the second round.
Torts’ Doghouse….the press box…. will get crowded with prospects. But one of either Joel Farabee, Bobby Brink or Morgan Frost will be up there with them next year to show them around.
