In Friday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

It has been tough sledding for the Philadelphia Flyers for most of the 2024-25 season so far, but they’ve surprisingly just picked up their fourth win in their last seven games despite all the struggles lately with a 2-1 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Backup goalie Ivan Fedotov triumphantly returned to the goal crease against Tampa Bay, picking up his first NHL win to the tune of 23 saves on 24 shots (.958). Fedotov’s performance marked just the second time this season a Flyers goalie not named Sam Ersson recorded a save percentage of .900 or greater (Aleksei Kolosov, .909 on Nov. 2 vs. Boston).

In case you missed it, the Flyers placed top defensive center Ryan Poehling on injured reserve on Wednesday afternoon retroactive to Nov. 2.

Poehling is dealing with a family situation according to head coach John Tortorella, though it is worth noting that players on injured reserve only need to miss a minimum of seven days. This would make Poehling available to return this weekend if all is well and he is ready to return to the ice.

AHL journeyman speedster Anthony Richard has been called up from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to take his place; Richard played 16 minutes against the Lightning in his Flyers debut.

NHL News

Well, the New Jersey Devils had to make a decision, and they finally did it.

Top defense prospect Simon Nemec, 20, has been cut from the NHL roster and re-assigned to the AHL Utica Comets, who just fired their head coach after an 0-9-1 start to the season.

Nemec, the former No. 2 overall pick, played 60 regular season games for the Devils last season and appeared in nine games for the NHL club this season, but has been displaced from the lineup after the returns of Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce.

Offseason addition Johnathan Kovacevic has proved irreplaceable on the Devils’ defense, so Nemec will head to the Always Hungry League after sitting in the press box since Oct. 22.

Devils decided to send their top prospect Nemec down to their AHL affliate…..so it is not just the Flyers that have prospect issues.
