Bailey’s Daily: Fedotov’s Flyers Story; Celebrini’s Milestone
In Saturday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
Philadelphia Flyers backup goalie Ivan Fedotov has had an interesting path to the NHL, to say the least.
The 27-year-old had gone from winning the Gagarin Cup, KHL Best Goaltender, and an Olympic Silver Medal to jail, and later forcefully conscripted into military service. Now, just over seven months after making it to North America, Fedotov has his first NHL win as a member of the Flyers.
“Everybody knows my story. Everybody knows what happened. But, this is in the past. Now it’s new chapter, new page and great feelings to be here and get the first win,” Fedotov said on Thursday night. “I need the time to just, you know, realize!”
In case you (somehow) missed it, Fedotov had to do it without the help of star Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov, who was very surprisingly scratched by head coach John Tortorella for the first time in his young NHL career.
It is currently unclear when Michkov will return to the Flyers’ lineup, but they did pick up a 2-1 win without him, so, who knows?
NHL News
San Jose Sharks star rookie Macklin Celebrini has returned from injured reserve at long last, and though his Sharks are still not very good, Celebrini reached a career milestone on Thursday night.
Scoring both goals in a 5-2 loss against the Minnesota Wild, Celebrini recorded his first career multi-goal game for the Sharks.
If things keep going the way they have been, the Flyers will be hoping they can land a player of Celebrini’s caliber in the 2025 NHL Draft with one of their many first-round picks.
At this point, consensus No.1 pick James Hagens is not out of the equation.
