Philadelphia Flyers prospect Jett Luchanko scored the first goal of his IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championships career in Team Canada’s 3-2 shootout to Team Latvia. Luchanko scored it in true Flyer fashion – short-handed.

When Luchanko was sent back to the OHL, getting an opportunity to develop and have a chance to play in the World Junior Championships was among a handful of reasons fans, beat writers, and organization members alike justified sending the 18-yer-old back to Guelph Storm. It is good to see the young center scoring for Team Canada, even if it came against Team Latvia.
Among the Flyers prospects representing their nations in the tournament, Luchanko is the first Flyers prospect to tally a goal in the tournament and the second prospect to register a point in the tournament. Defensemen prospect and Jett’s Team Canada teammate Oliver Bonk tallied an assist in Canada’s 4-0 shutout win over Finland.
Luchanko and Team Canada take the ice next on December 29th when they take on Team Germany.
Cameron shouldn’t be coaching this team. LUCHANKO barely get played? He’s by far one of their best players.
Really like JettLu—and his speed is exceptional……and when I look at Gavin McKenna he has everything going for him. Similar to USA’s Hagens…another generational player. McKenna is 16 months younger than Luchanko so that is not a real large difference in age- to- level appropriateness….where as Oliver Bonk is almost two full years older than McKenna on the Canadian side..
