Flyers Blank the Sharks in 4-0 New Year’s Eve Win
The Philadelphia Flyers improved to 17-17-4 as they shut out the San Jose Sharks (11-23-6) in their last game of 2024.
Nick Seeler, Ryan Poehling, Travis Konecny, and Egor Zamula all scored the Flyers.
The Power Play Strikes
The Flyers power play has been anything but a strong suit for the Flyers in the 2024/25 season. The addition of Matvei Michkov gave the Flyers special teams an early boost, but the power play has since returned to its natural, disappointing form.
Travis Konecny netted the power play score for the Flyers, assisted by Owen Tippett and Jamie Drysdale.
While one goal does not change the direction of the power play as a whole, it was good to see. Drysdale’s helper was a positive sign. He has been playing much better as of late.
The Defensemen Were Busy
The Flyers defensemen were busy Tuesday night but on offense.
Nick Seeler scored the game’s opening goal, assisted by Drysdale. Zamula was credited with an assist on Poehling’s second-period tally, along with scoring a goal in the third period.
As mentioned earlier, Drysdale earned an assist on the Konecny power play score, making it five points from defensemen on Tuesday.
Bobby Brink’s Two Assist Night
It feels like every game over the last 5-10-game stretch, the Tyson Foerster – Noah Cates – Bobby Brink line has done something notable.
This time, it is Brink’s turn for the spotlight. Brink had two assists Tuesday, one on the Poehling goal and the other on the Zamula tally.
That makes it five points in the last six games for Brink. That line is feeding off one another and is getting better as time goes on.
Ersson Injured
It has not been a lucky season for Flyers netminder Sam Ersson injury wise this season.
Ersson did not come out for the third period after colliding with Luke Kunin in the second period. Ersson did not skate at Wednesday’s practice and likely won’t play on Thursday.
Aleksei Kolosov played a solid third period for the Flyers and will likely get the nod on Thursday if Ersson can’t go.
What’s Next for the Flyers
The Flyers will leave the state of California for the first time since December 27th, when they arrived in Anaheim, as they are set to take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights in Vegas on January 2nd. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. EST.
