It has not been an easy season for Flyers netminder Sam Ersson on the injury front.

Ersson did not play the third period of Tuesday’s win over the San Jose Sharks after colliding with the Sharks’ Sam Kunin.

Per Flyers GM Daniel Briere, Ersson is considered “day-to-day”.

Ersson’s Rough Injury History in 2024

2024 was not kind to Ersson. The Flyers’ netminder had two “lower-body injury” designations in the 2024 half of this season; this current one would make it three.

Ersson’s AHL rookie season (2021-22) ended early due to a groin surgery. It does not seem like the Flyer goalie can catch a break.

What Does it Mean for the Flyers?

The Flyers are 8-9-2 without Ersson this season. The Flyers are currently 17-17-4, meaning the Flyers are not much worse without Ersson.

The Flyers have been carrying three goalies since Ersson returned from the IR in November. We will now probably get another look at Ivan Fedotov if Ersson misses much more than two-to-three games.

Ersson’s injury will defiantly be something to keep an eye on over the next week.

He may have a chronic groin issue going on this season.

Not Offsides

The Flyers are 8-9-2 without Ersson this season. The Flyers are currently 17-17-4, meaning the Flyers are not much worse without Ersson.”

There’s a key stat. All three goalies have not been good, but the larger issue is that the team is incredibly mediocre, with key young players not really improving.
