Knights Get the Best of the Flyers, Philly Falls 5-2
The Philadelphia Flyers drop their last game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights 5-2, making it a series sweep on the season by Vegas.
After a great first period from Aleksei Kolosov and the Flyers, the game unraveled from the second period on.
Philly fell to 17-18-4 on the season with Thursday’s loss.
Tyson Foerster and Travis Konecny scored for the Flyers, while Mark Stone, Nicolas Hague, Pavel Dorofeyev, Noah Hanafin, and Tanner Pearson all scored for the Knights.
The Hot Get Hotter
The Flyers started the game with Tyson Foerster scoring within the first 30 seconds of Wednesday’s contest. He and his line, Foerster-Cates-Brink, has been hot over the recent stretch of games for the Flyer.
Both Cates (primary) and Brink earned assists on Foester’s game-opening score.
That line continues to produce for the Flyers.
Konecny Makes it Two-Straight PPG
Travis Konency scored his second power-play goal in as many games, this one coming in the third period to cut the Flyer’s deficit to just two scores in the fourth.
The power-play goal is a positive sign for the Flyers, as improvement is showing in the worst area for the Flyers this season.
Simply Outmatched
The Golden Knights were the best team in the final 59:30 of the game. The Flyers scored quickly, but it was all Knights afterward, aside from the Konecny power-play goal.
The Knights are a great team; a Flyers win was not expected. This sentiment showed. Despite the 5-2 loss, the score could have been far worse.
The Flyers kept the shot total close. Aside from that, the final 59 minutes came up all Golden Knights.
What’s Next for the Flyers
The Flyers will head back east but not quite home yet as they are headed to Toronto to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday, January 5th. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. EST.
“Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto on Sunday, December 5th, with puck drop slated for 7 p.m. EST.”
Again this season the Vegas Golden Frauds, also known as Bettman’s Golden Boys, receive special treatment from the League regarding their salary cap situation. (Las) Vegas is being permitted to pay goalie Robin Lehner’s salary while he is on LTIR with his roughly $5 million cap hit not counting. This after they were allowed to be millions over the cap for the playoffs a couple years ago. But, Gary wants a competitive team in the desert, so the League creates special rules for them.
That is how LTIR works.
