Flyers Drop Their Second 3-2 Game to Toronto in as Many Games
The Philadelphia Flyers fell to 17-19-5 as they dropped their second in as many games to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A two-goal effort from Travis Konecny and two late-game power play chances were not enough; the Flyers fell just short of Toronto yet again.
Two-Goal Travis
Travis Konecny hit the 20-goal marker in the 41st game of the season, or the halfway point. The first tally came in the first period from a powerful one-timer off a Couturier feed.
Konecny’s second tally of the night came with help from a great backcheck by Noah Cates. Cates was able to create and win a puck battle beside the net, then immediately found Konecny, who cashed in with a back-hander.
Michkov Firing at Will
Despite not registering a point in Tuesday’s contest, Matvei Michkov played one of the best offensive games of the season thus far.
In just two periods of action, Michkov tallied seven shots on goal –an absurd number. Michkov had not had more than four shots on goal in a single NHL game prior to Tuesday.
Michkov spent parts of the third period in the locker room but did not register a shot in the third period.
He was firing at will but was also making heads-up passes. None of the chances created by Michkov turned into anything, but if he continues to play like he did Tuesday night, the points will come.
Laughton-Michkov Collision
Just 13 seconds into the third period, a scary moment with Scott Laughton and Matvei Michkov as they collided on the ice. Both players went to the locker room after the collision.
Laughton returned first, followed by Michkov later on. Both players shared a moment on the bench and took shifts later in the game. It will be something to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
