The Morning Rush: Flyers Prospect to the OHL; Laughton Trade Coming? and More
Noah Powell to the Oshawa Generals
Flyers 2024 5th-round draft pick Noah Powell left Ohio State (NCAA) to head to the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. The move was a little surprising. The Buckeyes are amongst the best teams in college hockey, and Powell found himself getting in the lineup on a nightly basis.
Powell only tallied five points (2G, 3A) in 17 games for Ohio State. He primarily was on the fourth line/extra skater role with a few games on the third line. The move to the OHL should see him getting more competitive minutes and production to come with that.
The Flyers right wing prospect will now get the chance to play with top NHL prospects Beckett Sennecke (ANA) and Calum Ritchie (COL).
Could Scott Laughton be on the Move?
In the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Elliote Friedman mentions that Scott Laughton has become a “sexy name” as the trade deadline approaches.
Seem like deja vu? Well, we have definitely been here before. Laughton definitely holds value as a veteran forward who can play center or on the wing. He’s a grinder that will eat minutes and play hard – exactly what a team in the cup hunt wants. It makes sense that since the 2023 offseason, Laughton has been in almost every trade rumor.
Laughton has one of the team’s highest trade values since players like the Travii (Konecny and Sanheim) and Matvei Michkov are untouchable.
While the Flyers may just be able to get a first-round pick for Laughton, Friedman did not make it seem so clear that Philly would even bite.
“Scott Laughton, so he’s a pretty sexy name right now. And, but someone said to me about what Philly is asking for him, they don’t think the Flyers right now really want to do it.” Friedman said on Laughton.
If the Flyers can get a first-round pick in return for Laughton, they have to pull the trigger.
Flyers Fall 4-1 to the Stars on Ed Snyder Legacy Night
What better way to honor one of the greatest owners in Philadelphia sports history than an uninspiring 4-1 loss?
The Flyers’ record dropped to 17-20-5 after Dallas dominated in Philly Thursday night.
The Dallas Stars came into Philly riding a five-game winning streak and easily extended it to six. Thanks to Morgan Frost, the Flyers were not shut out, but it was not their best showing.
The Flyers were boo-ed off their home ice and will look to avoid that when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.
If Laughton’s name is out, I am sure Risto’s name is also floating around…many teams would like a big right hand shot d-man…..but not at $5M AAV, so Danny B will need to eat a percentage of that contract. Whatever he does not eat, he saves in cap space.
