Ryan Hartman Suspended

Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman has been suspended 10 games by the  NHL Department of Player Safety for roughing against Tim Stutzle of the Ottawa Senators. Hartman will also forfeit $487,804.88 from his salary as a repeat offender.

I have watched the video repeatedly, trying to think of how it could have been unintentional. After a long while, I still cannot see a way where Hartman just happened to fall and shove Stutzle’s face into the ice. It was entirely intentional.

That was not the first time Hartman was punished for his actions off the draw. In January 2024, he was fined $5,000 for a high stick off the draw against Winnipeg.

NHL Player Safety was not messing around with Hartman this time around. Ten games seem like the right call for Hartman’s suspension.

New Flyers Still Having Visa Issues?

The Philadelphia Flyers have not got their return from the Farabee and Frost trade.

Both Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko have yet to join the Flyers, and their visa issues have been the reason. Pelletier has been added to the Flyers roster, while Kuzmenko remains off.

Flyers GM Daniel Briere said he hoped the two would join the Flyers at some point on their road trip. As of Tuesday morning, there was not much noise of their potential arrival. Getting a work visa in America takes time, so it is not unusual. Take the Chris Tanev trade from Calgary to Dallas last year as an example. Traded on February 28th (2024 was a leap year), Tanev did not make his Stars debut until March 6th.

It would be nice to have Pelletier or even Owen Tippett healthy for the Flyers on Tuesday, so a roster move is not required, but as of now, I would not expect Pelletier or Kuzmenko to dress. We will have a better answer around 1:30 EST (11:30 MST) when the Flyers hold their morning skate ahead of Tuesday’s game against Utah.

IIHF Continues Russian and Belarussian Ban

The International Ice Hockey Federation announced that Russian and Belarussian national and club teams are still banned for the 2025-26 season. This ban would prevent both nations from sending representatives to events like the World Juniors or World Championships. It even includes the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, though the International Olympic Committee will have the final say.

The two nations were banned from IIHF competition following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.

The IIHF said, “Current security conditions do not allow the necessary requirements for the organization of tournaments guaranteeing the safety of all.”

In their statement, the IIHF said they would revisit the decision in May 2026, ahead of the 2026/27 championship season.
