The Beast of the East
The Flyers play host to the best team in the Eastern Conference on Thursday against the Capitals.
Washington (77 points) has a nine-point lead on the Metropolitan (Carolina is second with 68). Florida is at the top of the Atlantic with 67 points. The Capitals have been on an absolute tear this season, two points behind the Winnipeg Jets (79) Â for the most in all of the NHL.
The Flyers will have a challenging task trying to avoid a five-game losing streak with one of the league’s best in town.
Still No New Guys
The Flyers will still be without newcomers Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko for Thursday’s game.
While meeting with the media before Thursday’s morning skate, head coach John Tortorella updated the situation and said Kuzmenko had completed his paperwork and that Pelletier was almost done. However, the two players had a flight scheduled from Toronto to Philadelphia, but their flight was canceled, making them unavailable on Thursday.
Tortorella left the door open for their Flyers debut on Saturday. He also mentioned the injury situation, saying that Rasmus Ristolianen may be the only injured Flyer with a chance to play before the break. Owen Tippett, Ryan Poehling, and Egor Zamula are all out with injuries.
Previous Matchup
The Capitals are up 2-0 against the Flyers in the season series, winning both games by three goals.
Philadelphia is 3-6-1 against Washington in the last 10 meetings between the two teams.
