Flyers Offensive Outburst Leads to 6-1 Win vs. Penguins

The Philadelphia Flyers cruised to a huge 6-1 win over their cross-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins in an offensive outburst.

Bobby Brink led the scoring with his four-point night, scoring a goal and three assists. Rasmus Ristolainen, Noah Cates (2x), Tyson Foerster, and Owen Tippett also scored Tuesday night.

Philadelphia improves to 26-26-7 with the win.

Taking Advantage of Opportunities

The first period was by no means the Flyers’ best hockey of the season—in fact, it was not even close. Yet they were able to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The scoreboard told a different story–one of Philadelphia’s dominance: a 2-0 lead and outshooting the Penguins 13-7.

Both teams did not look much better than the mites on ice playing during the intermission. However, the Flyers took advantage of their great chances and scored twice. While it was not very clean hockey, they certainly looked better than the Pittsburgh.

Rasmus Ristolainen (4) opened the scoring with a bomb down low from the left-side faceoff circle. Noah Cates (11) followed suit and cashed in on a tremendous two-on-one chance. Cates’ snipe came from the top of the left-side circle.

Egor Zamula (10) and Matvei Michkov (23) picked up the assists on the Ristolainen score, and Bobby Brink (17) and Jakob Pelletier (8) earned the helpers on the Cates snipe. It marked Pelletier’s first point in a Flyers uniform.

Chaos to Close the Second

The second period was much better for the Flyers. Despite a Penguins goal from Phil Tomasino (8) to start the scoring, the Philly controlled the second period.

The Flyers answered Tomasino’s tally with a Tyson Foerster (16) one-timer from a spot the Flyers had been comfortable in all game: the left-side faceoff circle. This time, the shot came from the dot. Jamie Drysdale earned his 11th assist on the season with a great feed from dot-to-dot to find Foerster.

The scoring party would continue in the closing 65 seconds of the second period, as both Cates (12) and Brink (8) scored goals just 10 seconds apart. The Flyers took what was a 3-1 lead heading into the break and quickly made it 5-1 before the second intermission.

Tic-Tac-Goal for Flyers to End the Scoring

The third period did not have much to show. The Flyers kept the Penguins quiet as they closed out the game.

The Couturier line played tic-tac-goal on the game’s final goal, resulting in an Owen Tippett (17) goal. Michkov earned his second assist of the game and his 24th of the season on the goal.

The Flyers locked down on defense and held the Penguins scoreless in the third.

What’s Next for the Flyers

The Flyers will head to Pittsburgh, concluding the home-and-home with the Penguins on Thursday at PPG Paints Arena.
