If It Aint Broke, Don’t Fix It

The Flyers, despite it not being their best game in the season, are playing their first game since stealing one on the road against the best team in the NHL.

It was certainly a defensive showdown in Winnipeg on Saturday, as the Flyers held one of the league’s best offensive teams to just one score. Connor Hellebuyck stifled the Flyers’ offense, despite the great deal of shots faced.

Regardless of the low-scoring effort, the Flyers came away with the win, thanks to some magic from Matvei Michkov in the shootout.

The old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and that is the approach Flyers’ head coach John Tortorella is taking with the lineup. The only change is that number one goaltender Sam Ersson returns between the pipes.

Familiar Faces in Different Places

The Flyers and Flames will face off for the first time since the trade that sent Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee to Calgary in return for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, and a 2025 second-round pick (and a 2028 7th).

For the first time in their careers, the Frost and Farabee will be facing off against the Flyers; Pelletier will line up against his former squad for the first time as well.

Since the trade, Pelletier has one point in four games (an assist), and Kuzmenko has three points (1G, 2A) in five. Frost has three points (2G, 1A) and Farabee has just one goal in the 10 games that they have played for the Flames. Both sides have got a combined four points from their new players, with the Flyers guys doing it in a much lesser amount.

Previous Matchups

In the recent past, the Flyers have struggled against the Flames. In the previous 10 matchups with Calgary, Philadelphia has gone 3-5-2, including a loss in Calgary early in the season. The Flyers are 2-1-2 against the Flames at home during that stretch.

The Flyers’ leading scorer during that 10-game stretch vs. the Flames is Travis Konecny, who has nine points (5G, 4A) in nine games. Sean Couturier follows Konecny on the list, scoring five points (1G, 4A) in eight games during that span.

Konecny has scored just five goals since the calendar flipped to 2025. Maybe a big game against a team he has had success against in the past will help him turn things around.

Not Offsides

Frost 3 points, Farabee 1 point in 10 games. Yeah, that’s about right. How much longer will people be saying the Flyers got taken?
