Flyers Game 75, York’s Return; Lines, Notes, & How to Watch vs. Sabres

Published

on

The Philadelphia Flyers (29-36-9) will host the Buffalo Sabres (30-35-6) in a Saturday matinee contest.

Two teams at the bottom of the standings will face off in a matchup in which the loser could very well be the winner, if you’re picking up on what I am saying.

The Sabres have been picking up steam lately, going 6-4-0 in their last 10 games, winning their last three. The Flyers have gone 2-7-1, but won their previous matchup against the Canadiens in Brad Shaw’s Flyers interim head coaching debut.

The puck drops at 1:00 p.m. EST. at the Wells Fargo Center.

Cam York Returns to the Flyers’ Lineup

Cam York has missed the last 110 minutes of play. In return, the Flyers have basically played back-to-back games with five defensemen.

After Thursday’s win, interim head coach Brad Shaw said that York will draw back into the lineup and actually play after sitting for the last five-and-a-half periods.

Getting York back into the mix will certainly help the Flyers. Travis Sanheim was a workhorse in York’s place, skating more than half of the game. Every defenseman, with the exception of Emil Andrae, who skated less than 13 minutes on Thursday, played more than their typical time.

It will greatly benefit the rest of the d-corps to get York back in the lineup.

Tank-Off

It’s time for a tank-off! Will the loser of the game actually be the winner?

The Flyers are currently one point ahead of the Sabres, but they have played three more games. The Sabres are currently the fourth-worst team in the league, but with three more games to play than the Flyers, Philly is projected to pick in that No. 4 spot (if the lottery falls in order).

Saturday’s game is the first of two matchups between the two tanking teams before the season is over. Every point matters from here on out. The top four in the draft (Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens) are the premier prospects–that is where you’ll want to draft. Saturday’s game is certainly a tank-off.

Previous Matchups

The Flyers have only played the Sabres once so far this season, winning 5-2 and two Travis Konecny goals.

In the last 10 meetings, the Flyers are 4-6-0 against the Sabres. The Travii, Travis Konecny and Sanheim, lead the Flyers in points scored during that 10-game span with 10 points each. In their last 10 games vs. the Flyers, the Sabres have three players with 10+ points: Tage Thompson (11), Alex Tuch (10), and Rasmus Dahlin (10).

Very surprised that Kolosov is not slotted to be between the pipes since he was recalled from the Phantoms. Either way, they need to curtail their winning ways, lose in regulation and be on a path towards the #4 pick.

A one goal loss in regulation time is a moral victory.
