Flyers Game
Foerster’s Hat Trick Lifts Flyers to 8-5 Victory Over Rangers

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 8-5 Wednesday night, with Tyson Foerster leading the way with his first NHL hat trick. Aleksei Kolosov picked up the win in his first start since January 2nd.
Along with Foerster, Granet Hathaway, Travis Sanheim, Jakob Pelletier, Sean Couturier, and Owen Tippett all scored goals Wednesday night.
After the win, the Flyers’ record improved to 32-37-9 and 73 points. Philadelphia now has the fifth-worst record in the NHL with four games to go.

Nothing But a Shorty in the First
The first period of Wednesday’s game was not telling of things to come. Each goaltender looked solid in goal, and neither team was able to generate any real danger.
Cam York was called for a slash early in the game, leading to a Mika Zibanejad penalty shot, which he would miss high.
Karsen Dorwart committed his first NHL penalty, a trip, but the Flyers’ penalty kill suffocated the opportunity.
The Flyers got a chance on the power play after a too-many-men penalty was called on the Rangers, which led to the game’s first score. However, it was not the Flyers who scored; rather, Vincent Trocheck (23) scored the shorthanded goal to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead.
The Rangers would take the 1-0 lead into the first period.
Flyers Scratch Back
It took just over nine minutes into the second period, but the Flyers would scratch their way back into the game after Tyson Foerster (20) found the back of the net for the Flyers.
Just under seven minutes later, the Flyers would get a shorthanded goal of their own, courtesy of Garnet Hathaway (9), who was a part of the high-scoring penalty kill last season. Hathaway’s SHG would give Philly its first lead of the game.
However, the Flyers would not hold the lead for long, as Artemi Panarin (35) tied it back at two for New York with a slick backhander past Aleksei Kolosov. The game was tied heading into the second intermission.
Nine Total Goals in the Third Period
The third period was a high-scoring period. Nine goals were scored between the two teams.
It started with Travis Sanheim (8) following his own shot, collecting the rebound, and cashing in on the second chance effort. The Flyers had the 3-2 lead just over three minutes into the final frame.
Johnny Brodzinski (11) would answer the call for the Rangers, followed by J.T. Miller (20) just over a minute later, giving New York the 4-3 lead with less than 15 minutes to play in the game. If you thought the action stopped there, you would have been dead wrong.
Exactly a minute later, Jakob Pelletier (6) scored his second goal as a Flyer with some puck luck off the pads of Jonathan Quick, and tied the game back at four. Philadelphia would dominate the game from there.
Sean Couturier (15) followed the previous two Flyers’ goals, and cashed in on a second chance effort, and beat Quick to regain the lead.
Just about four minutes later, Foerster (21) extended the Flyers’ lead to two and netted his second score of the game.
Chris Kreider (21) would make things interesting. He scored late in the period, bringing the Rangers back within one. His goal made it 6-5 with 1:50 to play in the game. Now within striking distance, the Rangers would empty their net and bring on the extra attacker.
Rangers Empty the Net
Foerster (22) fought for the puck and beat Adam Fox in a puck battle. That led to the empty-net goal with now less than a minute to play. It marked the first career hat trick for the young Flyer.
Owen Tippett (20) would go bar-down from the Flyers’ defensive zone. It was an awfully impressive score, which would put the game to rest.
The Flyers would hold on to win 8-5 in New York City.
What’s Next for the Flyers
The Flyers will return to Philadelphia on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EST, when they will host the New York Islanders.

SMH! As usual the boys can never do the right thing and just lose. Sitting in the 4th slot, 3 points to give now down to one. Seattle should lose out, Bruins are home vs Chicago & NJ and at Pitt. Hopefully Bos gets 2 or 3 points. But the Flyers will shoot themselves in the skate again and probably finish 6th and then get screwed by the balls and pick 7th.
Being 4-1 under Shaw is not helping the rebuild at all since it will screw up the draft choice. There is zero positivity with what they are doing right now.
What kind of rebuild are you looking for if the players you have just mail it in for a better draft pick? What does that say about the management, staff, and players that you have? I don’t want to be a fan of any team that doesn’t play to win, in any scenario, any sport. I’m just going to enjoy these last few games, and hope they play well and get a few more wins. To me, that builds a better team in the long run.
