Flyers Game
Foerster Stays Hot, Flyers Beat the Islanders 4-3 in a Shootout

The Philadelphia Flyers continue their winning ways under Brad Shaw as they beat the New York Islanders 4-3 in the shootout on Saturday.
Even with the point, the loss for the Islanders eliminates them from playoff contention. The Flyers record improved to 33-37-9 with the win.
Tyson Foerster (x2) and Jakob Pelletier scored for the Flyers. Matvei Michkov also earned his 60th point of the season with an assist on Foerster’s first goal.

Slow Start
For the second straight game, the Flyers got off to a slow start. Both teams’ first period was forgettable.
Headlining the first period was Jamie Drysdale’s two penalties, one for tripping and one for slashing. The Flyers’ penalty kill would hold the Islanders scoreless on both attempts.
Philadelphia would have a power-play chance of its own, but it would come to no avail. The game would head into the first intermission at a scoreless tie.
Foerster Stays Hot, Isles Answer
Tyson Foerster has now not-so-quietly caught fire in the first five games in the post-Tortorella era, and that would continue into Saturday’s game.
Foerster (23) would put the Flyers on the board with a power-play goal just three minutes and 28 seconds into the second period.
However, the Islanders would respond before Philly could tack on another.
Over seven minutes after Foerster got the Flyers on the board, Anders Lee (29) would even the score up at one with a power-play goal of his own.
The Islanders’ scoring in the second period would not stop there. Noah Dobson (10) would give the Islanders the lead seven minutes after Lee evened the score.
After 40 minutes, the Islanders had a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Flyers Tack on Two, Isles Tie it Late
Entering the third period, the Flyers were trailing by a score. Less than five minutes into the third period, Jakob Pelletier (7) ties the game back up at two a piece with his second goal in as many games.
Six minutes later, Foerster (24) would net his second of the game to give the Flyers the 3-2 lead just past the halfway mark of the third.
Foerster’s second goal of the game tied him for the team lead in goals, and now gives him eight goals in six games under Brad Shaw.
The Flyers would hold on to their 3-2 lead until the final minutes of the game. The Islanders emptied their net with a little more than two minutes to go in the game. Matvei Michkov hit the outside of the left post, which gave the Islanders an extra life.
The Flyers would have a second chance at the empty net, this time with Foerster on the ice. It seemed like every Flyer was looking for Foerster, which dismantled the chance. The Islanders would then take it the other way.
Bo Horvat (27) would get rewarded for his great game and would tie the game at three with a minute remaining on the clock. Neither team would score in that final minute, and this game would head to overtime.
65 Minutes was not Enough
There is not much to say about the overtime period other than the fact that it was one of the ugliest, most boring, sloppy three-on-three periods I have ever seen.
Needless to say, neither team scored, and the game went to overtime.
The scoring slump for both teams extended into the shootout as well. It took until the fifth frame for either team to score. It was Bobby Brink scoring for the Flyers, and Sam Ersson slamming the door for the shootout win.
What’s Next for the Flyers
The Flyers will get right on the plane as the team heads to Ottawa for a Sunday matinee game against the Senators.

Be beneficial to lose in regulation time to the Sens and Sabres. Jackets are red hot and come in on Tuesday…a loss there would also do the overall draft positioning well.
