The stage is set in St. Louis, MO, as the Western Michigan Broncos will take on the Boston University Terriers in the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four championship game on Saturday.

Each team in the championship game has a Flyers prospect on its team. The Western Michigan Broncos have Alex Bump, one of the more exciting prospects in the Flyers’ pipeline. Boston University has Devin Kaplan, who was drafted in the same year as Bump. Kaplan was the Flyers’ third-round selection in 2022, while Bump was their fifth-round pick that year.

Kaplan may not have as high a ceiling as Bump, but could crack the NHL one day.

How Did Bump and Kaplan Look in the Frozen Four Semis?

Alex Bump was somehow kept entirely off the statsheet in the Broncos’ double-OT thriller against the Denver Pioneers. However, he did have NINE shots in the game. While the contest did go nearly 88 minutes, that is still impressive from Bump.

He played a great game, but one thing that stood out the most was his play in overtime. Bump was absolutely everywhere. He had four shots in the first overtime period alone. It seemed as if almost every scoring chance the Broncos had was on Bump’s stick. He also was not rifling off shots just to take them; each of Bump’s shots was a legitimate chance.

Alex Bump is truly a college hockey star, and he has a bright future ahead of him.

As for Devin Kaplan, he did not stand out much in the Terriers’ game against the Penn State Nittany Lions. That seemed to be a theme of the season for him, with his numbers falling a step backward. He is playing on BU’s third line, which helped him earn his point in the game.

Kaplan was credited with the secondary assist on Cole Eiserman’s insane one-timer, which would ultimately be BU’s game winner. However, it was more of a “get the puck to Cole Hutson and let him do his thing” type of assist. Regardless, Kaplan picked up a point. Maybe he’ll be more of a factor in the championship game.
