The Philadelphia Flyers fell 4-3 in overtime to the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. It was the Flyers’ second overtime game in as many days.

Nicolas Deslauriers, Noah Cates, and Garnet Hathaway all scored for the Flyers in the loss.

The Flyers earned a point with the overtime loss, but their record dropped to 33-37-10 with just two games remaining.

Slow Start, Again

For the third-straight game, the Flyers did not score a first-period goal.

Slow starts have been the Flyers’ M.O. as of late. That would not change Sunday afternoon. However, the Flyers would outshoot the Senators 8-6 in the first period.

Ivan Fedotov got the start after being a scratch in the previous game and looked pretty poised. He made a handful of big stops to keep the Senators scoreless.

Each team traded power-play chances, but neither produced a score, and the game headed into the first intermission scoreless.

Flyers Take the Second Period Lead

The slow play continued into the second period. It took some time before anything really developed.

Travis Konecny rang the post on a power-play chance just under the 10-minute mark, but it never crossed the goal line. The power play could not convert, and the game remained scoreless, but not for long.

Who else but Nicolas Deslauriers (2) to break the scoreless tie for the Flyers? The veteran left-winger would get his second tally of the season, this one following the Flyers’ power play.

However, the Flyers’ lead would not even last a minute. Tim Stutzle (22) would answer the Deslauriers goal with a score of his own to even the score at one.

Play had seemed to hit a stalemate as time was running out in the third period, but with just under three minutes in the second period, Noah Cates would change that.

Cates (16) would get the rebound off his shot, bring it around the net, and score the wrap-around goal, and give the Flyers the 2-1 lead–a lead that would hold into the second intermission.

Back and Forth Between Flyers and Senators

The Senators entered the third period trailing by a score, but Fabian Zetterlund would change that.

Just under five minutes into the third and final frame, Zetterlund (19) snuck a wrist shot from the slot past Fedotov and evened the score at two for Ottawa.

The Sens tied the game yet again, but the Flyers regained the lead in less than three minutes.

Garnet Hathaway (10) put Philly back on top with 12:27 remaining in the game. It was a great game for their fourth line.

However, the Senators would make the game interesting again, a little more than five minutes later, as Thomas Chabot (8) netted the equalizer, making it a 3-3 game.

The game would have a four-on-four after Matvei Michkov drew a penalty, but also got called for embellishment.

No team would score in the final three minutes, and the game would head to overtime.

This Time, 65 Minutes WAS Enough

For the second straight game, the Flyers would play an extra period.

Overtime would not bode well for Philadelphia. Less than 20 seconds into the extra frame, Travis Sanheim would get called for interference, and the Senators would have the four-on-three advantage.

As time continued to tick off the Senators’ power play, Philly looked strong, until Noah Cates lost his stick. It was then that the Senators’ power play virtually became a four-on-two-and-a-half, and they did not look back.

Stutzle (23) would score the overtime dagger, his second goal of the game, and would end it just a minute and 40 seconds into the overtime period by a score of 4-3.

What’s Next for the Flyers

The Flyers will return to Philadelphia for their final home game of the season on Tuesday, when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Kinda mandatory that they lose these final two games if they wish to finish 4 or 5. If they lose both, and Boston gets a point, they can finish 4th. If they win both, they could possibly finish as high as 8th.

Romus

Lottery odds have Flyers picking 7th, at 43%…as of now.

These are two huge games but also important pens, bruins , sabers etc playing through if the flyers lose these 2 and bruins get a point right now flyers have least regulation wins of the bottom teams . Going to be important two games
