Flyers Get Shut Out in Home Finale, Lose 3-0 to the Blue Jackets

Just like their home opener, the Philadelphia Flyers were shut out in a 3-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their home finale.
They did not play particularly badly; they just ran into a team in desperation mode and one of the hottest goalies in the league.
With the loss, the Flyers improved their lottery position as their record dropped to 33-38-10 this season.

For the Fourth-Straight Game…
For the fourth straight game, the Flyers were held scoreless in the first period.
The good news for Philadelphia? The Blue Jackets were held scoreless as well.
Each team had its chances in the first period. Chances off the rush seemed plentiful, but there was not a whole lot of sustained pressure at five-on-five.
The Flyers did have two chances on the power play, but shockingly enough, they would not score on either.
Each team had nine shots on goal, but the game went into the first intermission scoreless.

Blue Jackets Score Twice
The second period would not go so well for the Flyers.
Columbus would score twice in the second period.
The first goal came from Dante Fabbro (8), who wound up and buried the slap shot from the top of the right-side faceoff circle. It was not directly off the draw, but Zach Werenski, who received the puck from the faceoff, found Fabbro, who then found space for the score.
Despite going down 1-0, Philly was still matching Columbus’ intensity, and it looked like it would be a nail-biter. That was until the Blue Jackets extended their lead.
The next Blue Jackets goal came just six seconds after an Emil Andrae high-sticking penalty.
Kent Jonshon (24) took advantage of the man-advantage and netted the power-play goal from that same right-side circle Fabbro scored from earlier. Johnson was able to slip back off the draw and was able to get off a relatively uncontested shot.
The Flyers had a handful of chances of their own in the period, including a Bobby Brink shot that rang off the crossbar. However, nothing would fall for the Flyers, and the Blue Jackets would take the 2-0 lead into the final 20 minutes.
Flyers Shut Out
Adam Fantilli (30) would score an insurance goal for the Blue Jackets, extending their lead to three. The game would end in a final score of 3-0.
The Flyers did not play a particularly bad game offensively; they just ran into one of, if not the hottest goalie in the NHL, Jet Greaves.
Greaves is stepping in for the injured Elvis Merzlinkins. He has done it phenomenally, especially in this do-or-die stretch for the Blue Jackets. He was the NHL first star of the week, and rightfully so. In the three games combined before Philly, Greaves faced 94 shots and allowed three goals. Tuesday’s shutout was the second in three games for him.
Columbus is a team fighting for its playoff life, and they played like it on Tuesday. It was unfortunate timing for the Flyers; they were just unable to solve Greaves.
What’s Next for the Flyers
The Flyers end their season on Thursday when they take on the Sabres in Buffalo.
With Tuesday’s loss, along with Boston earning a point, the Flyers only need a regulation loss in Buffalo to own the No. 4-overall pre-lottery position.

It’s very simple boys! Lose in regulation to Buffalo and you have the #4 pick. Win, and you’ll leapfrog Boston & Buffalo and possibly Seattle as well.
The Flyers just need to lose. Regulation wins is the first tie breaker, and the Flyers have the least amongst the three teams.
No, if they lose in OT or shootout and pick up a point, they will leapfrog Boston as well as Seattle assuming the Kraken lose to the Kings tonight.
My apologies. Misread the initial comment!
The Sabres will probably play around and try to lose the game?! Hopefully, because the Sabres will be at home, they try to win it though?!
Assume Kaplan will be suited up for the Flyers….gets his day in the sun…..not sure he will make the team come October.
