Flyers Sign Devin Kaplan to ELC

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 2022 third-round draft selection Devin Kaplan to a three-year entry-level contract. He will report to the Flyers for the remainder of the season and burn a year off of his ELC.
Kaplan has spent the past three seasons at Boston University, where he wore the “A” this past season. The Terriers made it to the Frozen Four each of the three years he was there.
Most recently, Kaplan played in the National Championship with the Terriers, where they lost to Alex Bump and the Western Michigan Broncos. Kaplan also picked up an assist in both games of the Frozen Four in St. Louis.
The 21-year-old right-winger had 64 total points in his NCAA career, tallying 25 goals and 39 assists. This season, Kaplan totaled 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists in 38 games. In his previous two seasons, Kaplan had 23 points in each.
The big thing with Kaplan is his size. He is 6’3″, 201 pounds–really good size for the NHL. He plays a power-forward game, which uses his size to his advantage. While the transition from NCAA to the NHL may not be the easiest, his physicality should translate well.
He will certainly be a project, but he has the upside of being a solid bottom-six winger. He plays hard and physically and will make the big hits. It will be exciting to see how he develops.

Hi William, you mentioned he will report to the flyers,do you see him getting in any of the last two games. The size and position are certainly what this team needs going forward.
He’ll likely get the season finale in Buffalo. I would be shocked if he plays this evening.
Thanks,I can see that with travel and other things, makes sense he would be not make tonights game,if he doesn’t play.
Why would they have him burn a year off of his three year ELC to just play in a single somewhat meaningless game? Only meaning is tied to draft pick position.
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it as well. It’s not entirely uncommon to see teams give NCAA kids one game at the end of the season, but this one doesn’t make sense to me either.
Agreed on the craziness. They refused to do it with Quitter Gauthier and it cost them a high draft pick and a good player. Kaplan is a fringe NHL player at best
