Flyers Send Four Players to 2025 Men’s World Championship

The 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men’s World Championship is just four days away, and the Philadelphia Flyers will have four representatives.
This is the second “international” tournament of 2025, after the successful 4 Nations Face-Off earlier in the year. The Flyers sent four players to 4 Nations as well, but only three were able to play.
The beauty of the World Championships is the fact that it takes place during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so it allows different players a chance to represent their country in an international competition.
While three of the Flyers that are going to Stockholm (SWE) or Herning (DEN) were at the 4 Nations, one Flyer is getting the opportunity to represent his country for the first time since the 2021/22 World Juniors Championship.

Three Flyers for Team Canada
Three members of the Philadelphia Flyers will be representing Canada at the Men’s Ice Hockey Championships this May.
Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim will be representing Canada for the second time in 2025 as they both are headed to the World Championships. Sanheim did not play in the first game of the 4 Nations Face-Off, but after injury issues for Canada, Sanheim stepped up and played some really solid hockey for Canada. Sanheim tallied one point in three games.
Konecny, on the other hand, will be looking for a new opportunity to represent his country. During the 4 Nations Face-Off, Konecny was basically the 12th/13th forward. He played in just two of the games, including being a scratch for the championship game. Konecny will likely play in every game, and make a better case for himself to join Canada at the Olympics next winter.
The third Flyer representing Canada is Tyson Foerster.
Foerster certainly would not get the nod if Canada had every native player available to their roster. However, as I said earlier, that’s what makes the World Championships so great. It will be exciting to watch Foerster get this chance. I’m sure his late-season surge helped solidify his case to play.
The last time Foerster wore a Canadian sweater, he represented his home nation in the 2021/22 World Juniors Championship, where he had six points (3G, 3A) in seven games.

Ersson Back with Sweden
Flyers’ netminder Sam Ersson will be returning to international play for the second time in 2025 as well.
Ersson joined Konecny and Sanheim at 4 Nations as well. The Swedish goalie is no stranger to international play. Ersson will make his third World Championship roster. He has played at every international stage for Sweden, aside from the Olympics.
Errson only got one start at 4 Nations and made the most of it. He only allowed one goal in his start against America.
Just like Konecny, Errson will have a chance to help him solidify his chances of representing Sweden at the Olympics in 2026.
The 2025 World Championships begin May 9th, and again, will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark.

No offense, but who really cares? I’m a LONG time Flyers fan, and the outlook for this team has never been so bleak. This team needs so much just to get back into playoff contention, I can’t see how anything can possibly improve within the next few years. Through bad hirings, bad drafting, bad trades, and even bad luck, the Flyers have managed to make themselves a miserable, irrelevant franchise. But hey! 4 players to the Men’s World Championship. The tournament of losers….
