Flyers Extend Tyson Foerster

The first of the Philadelphia Flyers’ RFA dominoes has fallen. The team has agreed on a two-year bridge extension with 23-year-old forward Tyson Foerster.
Foerster and the Flyers agreed on a short-term contract for $3.75 million AAV. Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff had it first. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports that the contract is worth $3.5 million this coming season, and $4 million the following.
The Flyers young winger had a breakout toward the end of last season, pushing him to his first 25-goal season of his NHL career.
In 81 games in 2024/25, Foerster had 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 total points. He was second on the team in goals scored, one behind Matvei Michkov.
The two year-bridge deal will allow the Flyers to give Foerster one more contract as an RFA. This is clearly a move to keep the cap low, and give Foerster the chance to earn a bigger payday down the road.
Foerster’s 43 point season followed his 33 point rookie campaign where he tallied 20 goals and 13 assists in 77 games.
With Foerster now under contract, the Flyers have three remaining RFAs: Cam York, Noah Cates, and Jakob Pelletier.

Good step in the off-season signing department, here’s hoping Forester can continue to grow with another year under his belt.William would you see any chance of the flyers at least kicking the tires on Johnathan toews who wants to try and play again,I know he will be 37,but he could be a veteran presence on a young team.
I doubt it. In all honesty, if Toews comes back, he wants a cup, and the Flyers aren’t ready yet. Not a match.
These contracts are what separates successful GM’s from the pack. Go with a short term deal at relatively low AAV versus a long term at a higher AAV. If Foerster performance is about the same, you can do a do another deal (short or long term) while still an RFA for maybe a little bit more, but if he blossoms into 40 goal scorer that deal becomes a whole lot more expensive and will be much more than what he could have been signed for long term now. Only time will tell……
