Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has found himself in familiar territory: trade boards.

Nick Kypreos released “Real Kyper’s Off-Season Trade Board 1.0: Players to watch this summer“, and shockingly enough, Ristolainen’s name made the list.

Ristolainen headlined just about every trade board ahead of the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. However, the Flyers held on to the defenseman, only to put him on the IR a few weeks later for what eventually turned out to be a reinjury of the same tricep that had held him out for an extended time last season.

Ristolainen underwent a successful surgery to fully repair the tricep and will be out for all of training camp. He is expected to be back in October.

Despite the injury, it seems as if Ristolainen could be on the block once again. Kypreos wrote that the Flyers could be looking for a deal before the draft. He said the Flyers could still trade him later in the summer if they don’t like the pre-draft offers.

Ristolainen will be 31 early next season, and the Flyers could look to move on from him to make room for a younger right-shot defender, while also recouping draft assets.

Big, physical, right-shot defenders continue to be a commodity in the trade market. They aren’t always available, and GM Danny Briere knows that. Maybe that will outweigh the injury concern.

While Philadelphia is still trying to get out of the rebuild and could benefit from keeping Ristolainen, it seems as if he is back on the block.

Moving Risto will mean eating a portion of his remaining contract.
I’d do the eat.
Even the league max retainment of 50% is still some cap relief for the Flyers.
And may still be able to get a draft choice in the deal….probably not a first, but at least one 2nd round pick.

Keep him
Dump York. York is a virus.
