Daily Whiz: Wells Fargo No More; Trade Season; Bombshell Move

Welcome to today’s edition of “The Daily”. We’re tinkering with new names, trying to find something unique to Philly, and “Daily Whiz” is what we landed on. Let me know in the comments what you think! Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled program.
It’s Friday, which officially marks the start of the weekend, right?
Some changes are coming to the Wells Fargo Center in the final weeks before it takes on its new name. The trade market has been heating up, though nothing more than names and speculation has come from it–but hey, it’s June. Names and speculation are the fun stuff.
Another big name joins the market as well, and again, might we see a fit in Philly for this star player?
Lastly, one team fills its coaching vacancy, leaving every team with a coach for just about 24 hours, it seemed, as another vacancy has opened up (quite shockingly, too, depending on who you ask.
Let’s unpack it in the 6/6 edition (and the first) of the Daily Whiz.
Philadelphia Flyers
Wells Fargo no more.
The South Philadelphia Arena has already announced that starting September 1st, the arena’s new name will be the Xfinity Mobile Arena. There are still a handful of weeks under the Wells Fargo Center name, but the transition process has already begun.
In other Flyers news.
Philly Hockey Now: With the draft now three weeks away, and July 1st following soon after, trade season has officially begun.
Rasmus Ristolainen is once again subject to trade talk, and a potential superstar could be on the trade block.
And more in trade talk: The Flyers have been linked to a Western Conference depth defender. I am against a trade, but would you make the move for Nic Hague?
National Hockey Now
Colorado Hockey Now: Remember when we said star players don’t always become available? Well, another star player may have just hit the trade market. An Avalanche star has reportedly been “not over thrilled” with his time in Colorado.
Boston Hockey Now: Another day, another new coaching hire in the NHL. Andrew Fantucchio gives you three things to know about the new Bruins head coach, Marco Strum.
Vegas Hockey Now: The Vegas Golden Knights have their long-term netminder in Adin Hill, but their backup is up in the air. Hill is a true No. 1, but he won’t take a massive workload, which means their backup is important. Ilya Samsonov filled in nicely, but will likely be out of their price range. Hannah Kirkell breaks down backup goaltender options for the Knights.
Bombshell
Who could have seen this coming: the Dallas Stars have relieved head coach Pete DeBoer of his head coaching duties.
Shocker, right? In all reality, he probably should not have thrown his franchise goaltender under the bus immediately following his team’s elimination.
Was Dallas just waiting? DeBoer was canned the day after the last vacancy in the NHL was filled—ironic, right?
Regardless, DeBoer has been fired. Although I’m sure this will be much like Jim Montgomery, and a vacancy will be opened solely because he is on the market.

A couple thoughts…
Not feeling “The Daily Whiz”. Makes me think of taking a pee.
Now that the Wells Fargo Center name will be gone soon, can we get rid of PECO’s sponsorship of the power play? I really loathe Lou Nolan yelling PECOOOOOOOO Power Play. Makes me think of higher utility bills.
DeBoer couldn’t get them past the conference finals, plus several players had enough of him.
